Name's Matt. I've got 21 years under my belt, and I'm studying to be an engineer.

Here's my Star Wars story.
When I was growing up, I would consider myself a Star Wars fan if someone asked me. I saw the six movies, and I liked them, sure. However, nearly a year ago at the end of my sophomore year in college, I saw someone post on facebook about reading "Red Harvest." I had no Idea what that was, so I looked it up on the wikipedia, which led to wookieepedia, which led to looking into a completely different spectrum of Star Wars I had never seen before. I got so excited with all the new EU content I had to sink my teeth in.

Books read:
Darth Bane trilogy
TOR: Deceived
TOR: Fatal Alliance
Kotor (game)
Revan (in progress)

After I finish the Revan book over the next few days, I won't really know where to go to next. I will have gone through all the story from that era excluding TOR mmorpg. I thought about these clone wars series; I don't really know much about them, but I don't really know the best way to go about watching them starting from nothing.

I would personally suggest reading the Thrawn Trilogy if you wanna check out post-film time era.

I heard good things about Thrawn. That will definitely be on my to do list. Right after Darth Plagueis, who I forgot to mention I'll be reading about after Revan.

Welcome, Gan! Awesome to have you here, and I know we would all be more than happy to help you on your EU journey. I second Padme's suggestion for the Thrawn trilogy, and you'll eventually have to work your way through the NJO. It's an amazing series, and it would be a crime not to recommend it.

Welcome. The KOTOR stuff is set back far enough from the movies that it doesn't really effect stuff. Personally I haven't read much from that era, so I'm not sure if or where you could jump into it.

As far as Clone Wars goes, I'd recommend starting with the animated shorts. They aren't big on character development but they do give a quick summery of the story and you'll at least have some familiarity with the characters. As for the CGI series, it's more or less self contained so you can start it from the beginning without having to watch anything else. I'm not sure about season to season, though.

. Okay, so books to read next. Hmm. That depends on what era you like. You mention the Clone War era, so I'd recommend Shatterpoint and Yoda: Dark Rendezvous. Those two are part of a series, but the series itself is made up of standalones, so you can read one book and not feel at all lost and think that you're missing out on something because you haven't read the other books in the series. You might want to give Hard Contact a go. That's the first book in a series, and some like it, some don't, but I feel it's worthwhile to read this one book, and then see how you feel, if you like it or not.

As for post films, I cannot recommend highly enough the X-Wing books.

Boldly adding NJO and clone wars episodes to my list, perhaps a clone wars novel like Life is the Path suggested. Is there a free source to watching these clone wars shows? Or will I have to go about some other way.

As Life said, you should definitely try Hard Contact in the Clone Wars era. The Republic Commando novels are by far my favorites from that era, and certainly some of my favorite books in the entire EU. Highly recommended. Smile

I guess NJO is supposed to be a jumping in point, but it's set 20 years after Return Of the Jedi. That's five times a long as the OT, and I'd think it would be pretty confusing to start there without knowing anything that happened in between. I know I'd be like Why are there all these Jedi, I thought Luke was the last? and who is this Anakin Solo? And What?! Luke is married?
