Untitled Star Wars Novel with Unnamed Author

So, there's not much to go off here, but Del Rey editor Erich Schoeneweiss sent out this on his Twitter feed today:

"This week a fantastic idea for a Star Wars novel got paired with the perfect author to write it. Can't wait until we can tell you more."

Let the speculation begin!

I wonder who they think of as 'the perfect author'. Of course, Matthew Stover pops to mind, as do Michael Stackpole and Paul Kemp. But the qualities they think of that amass to a perfect author might vary wildly from what I think of as the perfect author. For now, I'm keeping those three as my nomination for who the author is going to be, not including new authors.

I doubt it's Stover. He's been very busy in his Caine universe. Won't be Zahn cause Zahn already has a Han book in the works and it's too soon for another.

Allston is a possibility, Stackpole would be AWESOME (in my opinion), but Luceno can't be ignored. I doubt it's Kemp cause he has a duology on the board. Jeff Grubb...probably not...I don't see them signing him up for another until they get some feedback.

Personally I'd love to have Greg Keyes come back, but that's a very slim chance.

Denning is another possibility. We have no idea what he's doing post-Apocalypse.

I'd honestly take another Schreiber story. They've allowed him to do a couple different horror styles and I wouldn't mind him doing a more mature one now. His other novels say he's capable of it.

Death Troopers was your standard Zombie survival story and if you like that kind of thing its a pretty decent book. Red Harvest was disappointing but also more of a slasher-style story, and for what it was he did it right. No depth to the characters and they get killed off quickly and its quite gruesome. I think in a third one we could possibly go with a psychopath killer or even a paranormal thriller, both of which would again be new to the Star Wars universe and could be more interesting than either of his first two stories.

There's no way its Schreiber, he's working on his movie now.

Schreiber or not, if Star Wars is going to try horror again, I sincerely hope they take it in a more thriller direction. Red Harvest was just a mess of gore, in my opinion.
