Don't forget that when ROTJ was released, the story line about him being Palpatine's apprentice and being manipulated by him hadn't been written back then. So far as we knew, Vader was a former Jedi who had turned to the dark side of his own accord, and because Obi-wan Kenobi had failed to teach him properly. It wasn't even clear that it was the Emperor who was behind the fact that there were hardly any Jedi left, so no one would have thought about Yoda and Ben Kenobi wanting to take vengeance on him for destroying the Jedi.
There were actually trailers released, calling the film 'Revenge of the Jedi' but they were pulled when the title was changed. Lucas switched the words after realizing that revenge was an emotion suited to the dark side, and that the film was about redemption, rather than vengeance. No Jedi should seek revenge, and that applies to Ben Kenobi and Yoda as much as it does Luke.
