I'm definitely quite excited for this, now. The Zahn name alone, to be honest, doesn't sell me a book, but this concept intrigues me greatly. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's been a story like this Heist caper in the EU before.

This just made my day! Sounds like an amazing idea for a book, and I LOVE Zahn's writing.

Zahn's books are the very few SW books that I do not buy in paperback. I read them so much and the hardbound stands up better than the paperback.

Zahn and Han...should be good.

But, Thrawn will be in there right? Please, pretty please?

Zahn can't write a novel that doesn't in some way at least acknowledge him or Mara Jade or Talon Kaarde. We'll get his cast, its kind of a requirement for him to be enlisted as an author.

He actually said he wouldn't be relying on a lot of his old staple characters because of the nature of the book, and that it would be very different. I doubt Mara would be in a smuggler novel at this point in time. Perhaps we'll see Karrde.

No Thrawn? Crying or Very sad

Well if Karrde's there that will be good.

With an Ocean's Eleven type caper, I think Karrde is very likely to appear.

Could someone explain to me why Karrde is as beloved as he is? He means as much to me as Ric Olie or Agen Kolar.

@Reep: He's gangsta fabulous!

No, seriously though, he's kinda awesome. The guy was one of the original EU characters which gives him that angle, and he's kind of a good character for semi-moral ambiguity.

The smuggler with the heart of gold. I just didn't buy it. "I'm a drug dealer and pirate, but the government won't let me work for them. I'm a good guy! The system is so unfair." Neutral

I never actually saw him that way. He's gruff and works for whoever is the most profitable. I enjoy his character, but only when Zahn writes him because anyone else kind of tosses him aside and doesn't try.

Karrde is awesome because...

1. He was in the first Star Wars novel I ever read.
2. He was a business man who favored dealing in intel. A suave power broker.
3. He had pet vornskrs.
4. Mara Jade worked for him.
5. His ships had cool names.
6. Unlike Han, Karrde had his own organization. Karrde was like a successful version of Han.

It's been a while since I've read a book where Karrde had a major role, so my memory is a little rusty. He was a smuggler, but I fail to see how that makes him unlikable. Han, Dash, Booster Terrik, Mirax...heck, even Wedge was a smuggler.

Besides, Karrde quit smuggling. And he has the coolest second in command going -- Shada.

^ Shada was cool. Karrde? Not so much. I don't mind the fact that he's a smuggler in itself, I just thought it was silly when Leia got all sympathetic over the New Republic not giving a pirate/smuggler a government position. No kidding. I wouldn't either. The main reason I don't like him (not that I hate him, I just think he's very unmemorable) is just that I find him a bland character.
