What the Shadow's version is doesn't leap immediately to mind. However, my Shadows have been relatively low level so it is probable I didn't reach the level where that ability comes into play.

As for me my 30 day trial ran out so I'm going to take a break for a bit while I figure out how gaming will be compatible with thesis writing. Once I figure out how much time I have for gaming I'll know whether it is worth it to renew my subscription during the semester. So I might be gone for just a few weeks or I may not play again until May when the semester is over.

I just started the game yesterday, and I love it so far! I'm a Sith Warrior named Tarahl (Taral was taken, apparently) on the server Sword of Ajunta Pall.

I've never played an MMO before, but found some people doing the group quests in Tulak Hord's tomb on Korriban and joined up with them for a bit (transparently stating my newness to the game and to the genre at large). It was SO FUN!!!!

Quick question: does EUCantina have a presence in TOR? Is there a server I should join with my second character? I'd love to play with you all!

I apologize if this has been discussed before; I didn't want to skim through 15 pages of comments.

Members of EUC supposedly play on Hyperspace Cannon. Aside from Crash I've never run into any EUCers there. The only reason I know Crash is there is because we both coordinated to join up there so we could join the EUCers who supposedly play there. Needless to say all efforts to coordinate with the other EUCers by and large failed.

I'm currently taking a break due to thesis work but when I'm back on I'll be playing on the server Shii Cho where some of my other friends have a guild.

If we can ever coordinate anything on Hyperspace Cannon I'd be happy to go back but as it currently is I won't be playing there since I mostly got stuck soloing or just joining random groups. While its still fun if I'm going to solo play I'd rather do Skyrim which was designed purely for that style.

Just some news for those EUCers out there who haven't tried the game yet: from March 15 to March 19 you can get a free weekend pass to give the game a trial run.

News Article: http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20120313-0

EDIT:
Also for those of you who currently play: if you have passed 1 billing cycle you have the chance to invite 3 friends to play (they get a free 7 day trial).

Article: http://www.swtor.com/info/faq/game#q400150

Just some stuff for those of you who have been on the fence about trying or those of you who play and would like to introduce a friend to this game.

Okay you guys, it finally happened. Ree'dius joined TOR Wink (they reeled me in with their free weekend trail)
And of course I don't have a clue of how half the stuff here works Laughing

Well, the single player part I get most of the times, but when it comes tp PVP I have a (newbie) question I hope someone here can answer: What is the deal with PVP gear? Do you use that in stead of your normal gear when you play PVP or can you use it all the time, what's the difference between the two? Can you play PVP without PVP gear?

And also, how (or where) do I craft items?

Probably pretty silly questions for the MMO veterans, but this is the first time I've played a MMO. Can someone explain these to me? Thanks Very Happy

The PVP gear can be used in everything in the game. What makes unique is that you can only get it through PVP medals ( I think it's medals) and it is a LOT better than normal gear unless you are willing to pay a fortune. You can play PVP without the gear.
I advise though that you shouldn't do PVP till you are at least level 20. I tried at level 16 and I got smashed.
Crafting in this game is different to other MMOs. When you finish the starting zone then you will get to train crew skills these are crafting, gathering and another one that I can't remember.

Don't be embarrassed about asking this. I play MMOs heaps but I never chat and the other day someone talked to me and I had to answer in world chat cause I didn't know how to whisper back. I asked my dad later and he thought it was very funny.

Just to add to the bit about crew skills the TOR forums have a great guide on crafting (what classes benefit most from which skills, what skills work together best etc.):
http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=530

It may seem like a dense read at first but once you get into the game it becomes clearer (and the best thing is you can always change what crew skills you have so if you realize you made a bad choice you can easily change your crew skills).

As Vestara said don't be embarrassed to ask questions! Vets want newbies to have fun and become immersed with the games they enjoy too.

Something I'm pondering doing (distant future when I have enough time) is setting up several alts that have different crew skills I can use. Send credits/supplies to the alts so they can craft the goods to then be mailed back to my primary characters. Before I do has anyone tried this and/or know if this will work?

I haven't tried it before but I know people who have and it worked well for them.

I know that if your various characters are on the same server (and presumably work for the same side), then they'll be able to send each other things using the email system within the game. If it is between characters owned by the same account, the transfer will be instantaneous (between friends it can take up to a half-hour).

Thanks for the help Vestara and Salaris.
I'm glad to know a place to ask these questions and people to answer them. I'll give the crew skill thread a read and hope everything will get clearer to me.
That said, I'm not impressed with the online game manual TOR has set up. It only provides the most basic of information and seems to have been made for the experienced players and not the inexperienced.
I'm loving the game though, my Jedi Consular is almost ready to leave Taris now heading for Nar Shaddaa next. Cool

Yeah i think the game manual was made for people who played the beta cause we had to work out how to play it during beta without a manual and they never made a detailed one for new players.

Is anyone else getting a "patcher service temporarily unavailable" message when they load the game launcher and try to log in?

@Salaris I haven't had any problems with that.

So, Looks like Bioware has released an offical podcast for TOR. (http://www.swtor.com/blog/preview-our-new-podcast)

Sounds pretty good. And good to hear some of the behind the scene goings on for 1.2.

Just a follow up on my earlier crafting question: is it possible to e-mail characters on the opposite faction? And more specifically is what you can craft faction specific (sort of a faction like restriction the way some items have light side/dark side restrictions).

Mainly because I was thinking I could set up alts with both factions for crafting purposes rather than having 2-3 alts of the same class.

Finally for those Jedi/Sith players: with artifice and sytheweaving does one let you craft additional equipment for other item slots (like how cybertech can create earpieces)? I'm thinking about switching to one or the other from cybertech on my Jedi main (I'll set up my smuggler alt as the cybertech) and I'm trying to figure out whether artifice or sytheweaving would give me the most crafting benefits (ideally I'd like to pick one that gives crafting options beyond just making enhancements for orange type sabers/armor).

Just another update for everyone: from April 6-9 there will be another free weekend pass for those who have yet to play the game: http://www.swtor.com/news/%5Bnews-category%5D/20120404

So if any of you missed out on the first free weekend pass here's your second chance. (not available for people who took part in the first free weekend pass, so no option to mooch a few extra free days of gaming on an existing account)
