There have been complaints about continuity within the Star Wars fandom. Instead of just venting our frustrations, what if we put our heads together and thought of ways to fix the existing continuity errors within the Star Wars universe? We could create our own ret-cons!

What glaring continuity error would you like to amend? And how?

Well, there's the little thing about OWK calling Vader "Darth" in ANH, but I always used the explanation that OWK was having a dig at Vader, trying to insult him by putting emphasis on the fact that he is a Sith, knowing that Vader had made a fatal mistake and betrayed everything he knew and was (and he knew it) by becoming a Sith.

I know it's a tiny thing and was obviously unavoidable as Lucas didn't know about any of this when he made ANH, but you know this is about retcons, not stupid mistakes.

R8 in the clone wars- leave it alone aka go back to the original idea with droids. The long serial numbers. No need to destroy continuity of the R series droids to explain Mace having an R8 droid- leave the little tin can an R2 droid with a designation R2-R834yr or what not. I really get irked when a retcon causes continuity issues itself....

As for this thread- that's always what I try to do- find ways to fix what GL breaks.

*old thread alert*

I've been thinking about something; I try not to pick and choose from the EU, so even if I don't like something, I still count it as canon, doesn't matter whether it was badly written, a big character dies, or it is seen as stupid.

But there is one thing that I omit from canon, even though it is quite big; the "Chosen One". I just think it's lazy and generic and just poor storytelling. Go to any fantasy book and there will be a Chosen One. Fortunately, this doesn't change loads for me.

I would ret-con the Han shot first thing. The added scene with Jabba in Docking Bay 94 has continuity issues due to the dialogue with the "Greedo shot too" addition.

Specifically Jabba asks why Han shot Greedo. As originally filmed this question makes sense, Han killed Greedo in cold blood. The change makes no sense unless it is assumed that Jabba is not so quietly telling Han that Jabba is upset that Han didn't die (but this explanation makes no sense either since Jabba has enough muscle to kill Han right there if he wanted Han dead).

I'm sure Mara would agree with this but can we ret-con Mara Jade's death? It is an obvious continuity error that she isn't in future books due to some misunderstanding that she "died" Wink

I take it a different way.

What if Greedo had strict instructions to under no circumstances kill Han. Jabba didn't want him dead, just scared.

So in that case, it becomes more like "Why did you fry poor Greedo?" "Because the karking lunatic tried to shoot me! Thank God he's such a bad shot! Pick more trustworthy henchmen next time, ok?"

Or you could take it that Jabba knows Han is such a good shot he could have shot the blaster out of Greedo's hand without killing him. Wink

Saying "Han Shot first" would imply somebody else shot as well Wink

I wrote an article about the "Who shot first?" controversy awhile back: http://bit.ly/wTqlSO Apparently, the scene has been modified (again) in the Blu-rays.

Has anyone read the comic miniseries "A New Hope: Special Edition"? It's the Ep4 adaptation included in Omnibus: The Complete Saga.

Because of the nature of comics, they made the shooting scene quite a bit longer. In panel 1, Greedo shoots. In panel 2, the blaster hits the wall, and Han Solo has a face like "What the hell, dude!" In panel three, he shoots back.

Brilliant.

Yeah, you guys must really not be paying attention to the movie.

The rebel Blockade Runner shot first, then Darth Vader's Star Destroyer, then stormtroopers, then the Rebels, then Leia, then the Jawas, and then Han.

So Han shot seventh.Wink
