Karrde is the EU's first antihero. He didn't want to be a hero all he wanted was to make a profit and look out for himself, like Solo in the movies. He didn't want to take sides but, Thrawn forced his hand.

I don't find Karrde bland at all. To me he's the master of unflappable cool. Although we did get to see a chink in the armor in NJO when he thought Shada had been killed.

Boy, I'd like to know what that relationship really is. Wink

Im hoping if this novel has an Ocean 11 feel to it that involves either
robbing Imperial Center of credits to fund rebellion or going
after one of the big ship yards to steal ships. Like a Super Star Destroyer but
instead at the end they wind up with the Lamada class shuttle seen in
Return of the Jedi

Everytime I see this thread I get more and more excited for this book! I hope Timothy Zahn writes it in more of the simple style of Brian Daley's Han Solo Adventures compared to his other more intricate novels. Not sure if I'd enjoy the labyrinth style of writing in a book like this.

I'm hoping the Ocean's Eleven bit translates into an all-star cast of characters for the novel. It would be fun to see a bunch of the side characters gathered together to make the A-TEAM of thief squads.

A blurb before a title? Has this ever happened before?

Sounds like it could be really good though. Cool

Okay, we has title! It shall be called "Scoundrels".

(BTW I totally called this on Twitter. I said it like an hour ago!)

Edit 2: something was posted while I was typing my edit; never mind.

Quote:
The Death Star has been destroyed. The Rebellion has had its first big victory. And Han Solo, newly conscripted to the Rebel cause, is on the run from the Empire and the bounty hunters eager to turn him in for the huge reward being offered by Jabba the Hutt. Now a mysterious stranger offers Han the resources to execute a daring robbery from a major crime lord. The mission is impossible, but the prize will make Han a free man. With no choice but to accept, Han Solo and his Wookiee partner, Chewbacca, set out to assemble a cast of rogues, knaves, and cons with the right combination of wits, skills, and derring-do to pull off an operation of this complexity and scale ó the best scoundrels the galaxy has to offer. And then the game is on: a rip-roaring, intergalactic, Oceanís Eleven-style heist adventure starring Han Solo, Chewie, and Lando Calrissian, written by #1 New York Times bestselling Star Wars author Timothy Zahn!

I really like the cover. Supposedly it's wrap around cover art, so I wonder whose on the back?

I would L-O-V-E to see Vilmarh Grahrk in this.

Thoughts: Hate the cover. Really, really boring. Other than that, I'm looking forward to it, glad it won't be a fate-of-the-galaxy-jedi-vs-sith book.

But I was thinking about that: I bet they try to do an Ocean's Eleven bank/casino job and it turns out what they want to steal is something uber secret and important, like a super powerful ancient Sith artefact or something.

And I thought this would be pre-ANH. Huh.

I'm not sure of what the big problem of this novel is. I'm looking forward to it, and really loving Lando's outfit. And from what I've read about Han and Lando having a frosty (For lack of a better word) relationship around this time, Let's be fair, money is one of those things that drives smugglers and Scoundrels. That's why Han helped Luke rescue Leia in ANH. Because he could get money "that was more then he could imagine." And, although Lando is Baron Administrator of Cloud City at this time, let's face it, If Lando could get more money, he would. And if working with someone whom he may not be on the best of terms with, to earn that money is important, then he'll do it.

I...am...psyched. Holy crap, that cover looks awesome. And it kind of matches Scourge in style.

It's two-thirds awesome. I really like Han and Lando, but something about Chewie seems off (so maybe I should say it's three-fifths awesome, since he's so big). Like he's been photoshopped, perhaps?

I'm actually getting quite excited about this book, now. And I wonder who the secret backer is. Any guesses? Maybe I should quote the odds ...

4/2 - Thrawn.
5/1 - Jorj Cardaas
8/1 - Nuso Esva
10/1 - Garm bel Iblis
11/1 - Whatshisname
