I haven't seen The Hunger Games (yet) and hearing all these good reviews makes me even more excited for the movie!

To everyone avoiding the spoiler-y Hunger Games thread, I'll just that you should all see the movie. Smile

Oh, and me, Mara, and Mara's sisters were lucky enough to see a showing before school let out. We got to walk right in and get the seats we wanted and there were mostly older folk in the audience. We got out around 3:30 to find the theater crowded with schoolchildren in "Team Peeta" shirts. We beat a hasty retreat. Smile

It would appear I am seeing Hunger Games this evening. Literally no idea about any of it except for the fact that kids have to fight for their lives on TV. Very rarely do I see a movie without some idea of the premise.

Edit: Just got back from Hunger Games. I'll write about it in the Hunger Games thread.

And the trailers; no way am I going to see Battleships, I may want to see that movie with the stupid name (with Bruce Willis and the son wants to save his family etc), I'd quite like to see Cabin in the Woods. I probably won't see Avengers until I've seen the Hulk, Thor and the one that Scarlett Johansen(sp?) was in.

ScarJo was in Iron Man 2.

And be sure to watch "The Incredible Hulk", not "Hulk." Only The Incredible Hulk is in the Marvel Cinematic universe. Hulk was the Ang Lee/Eric Bana one that was terrible.

Actually... "The Hulk" could still be tied to the franchise. As you'll recall, "The Hulk" ends with Bruce Banner in South America - where he is when "The Incredible Hulk" starts. Now it's very clear that "Incredible" isn't so much a reboot as a "pretending the first didn't happen," but if you want to put the two movies together in your own personal canon - you can.

But I'm with you on that one. "The Hulk" totally sucked.

Actually "The Incredible Hulk" DOES reboot. The entire intro of it is meant to overwrite "The Hulk" completely, redoing his creation and completely and forever removing that awful Ang Lee movie from Marvel's universe.

It doesn't reboot. It's not an origin story - he starts the film with his powers. His origin is retold through images, and they align with the first film without any trouble if the viewer wants it to.

Or as Wiki puts it: "Producer Avi Arad called the film a financial disaster at the box office, but declared that Hulk's merchandising was successful enough to make a sequel. This eventually led to rebooting the franchise with The Incredible Hulk, which is also viewed as a standalone sequel as much of the plot of The Incredible Hulk is continuous of Hulk."

So maybe we are both right... from a certain point of view. Wink

Perhaps Wink

Personally I see it as a reboot because if you closely watch the intro its more akin to the old television show than it is with the Ang Lee movie. They completely leave out the things with his father and such, instead focusing on the creation itself and that's about it. So it could be a sequel, it could be a reboot, but it works how you want to take it. I prefer it as a reboot that distances itself from that horrible first one.

I just re-watched The Incredible Hulk. The opening scene (during the credits) shows the experiment that gave Banner his powers, which is very different from the weird genetic stuff that the Ang Lee movie did.

I like to consider it as a Soft Reboot. They ignore what they wanted, adopted what they wanted. Both can be watched one after the other, and it might flow somewhat, but there's nothing in "Hulk" that is set in stone. It's S-canon at best Smile

Of course, we're getting someone altogether different to play Banner now anyways. I can't judge Mark Ruffalo yet, but Ed Norton was soooooo good! Normally I love Eric Bana, but I don't get "quiet geek" from him, so it wasn't as good.

Dang. I'm the only one that like Ang Lee's Hulk. Sure the CGI was dated from minute one, but the rest of the movie was good. C'mon, it's Ang Lee.

I did like Thor, but don't care much for the rest of the Avengers solo movies.

Iron Man 2 was instantly forgettable, if not terrible. I like Don Cheadle, but it was stupid that they replaced Terrance Howard as War Machine, he was better. And they made children's t-shirts that had Mickey Rourke with exposed nipples. That should be a crime.

I'm pissed at Marvel Studios AKA. Disney because we are never going to get a Silver Surfer movie.

I hated Iron Man 2 as well. I found it boring and anti-climactic.

Also on a more serious note Marvel is not giving any royalties from the Avengers movie to the family of Jack Kirby, creator of Captain America, and co-creator of all the other Avengers, whose legacy has been totally stomped on by Stan Lee.

They also didn't give any money from either of the movies to the guy who created Ghost Rider. Evil or Very Mad

Its a movie based on a board game starring Rhianna and involving the actual pegs from the game, which takes away from its credibility. It looks like CGI fest in 3D but with no depth.

Apparently, Terrence Howard wanted too much money. He made more money than Robert Downey Jr. during Iron Man 1. So they dropped him in favour of someone less expensive. And apparently they did it very badly (Terrence Howard learned that he was dropped by reading it online or watching Entertainment Tonight, something like that).

I enjoyed Iron Man 2, but admit that it wasn't as good as the other one (or as good as Thor, Captain America, or The Incredible Hulk).

Also, we did get a Silver Surfer movie. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. It wasn't great, but was 100 times better than the first Fantastic Four movie.

I'm the kind of guy that likes almost all comic book movies. In some cases because of excellent stories (Watchmen, Iron Man 1, Captain America, etc.), and in other cases for mindless action fun (Punisher, Daredevil, Ghost Rider, etc.) Even if a movie is "bad", it can still be fun to watch for the great action sequences and terrible dialogue.
