Trust me, they happened. I know the guy, and he's not really one to claim something happened when it didn't, and not one to claim that it happened to him when it didn't. *Shakes head and walks away*

I watched the Skyrim trailer 3 or 4 times today. I watched TOR:Return once. I have a YouTube Playlist up of all of the Skyrim music today.

I may need to turn off my computer Cool

KIDDING, I could never do that.

I would like to raise a point that is very dear to my heart.

On March 31, many cities in the world are holding Earth Hour, where for a period of one hour, people are asked to turn off their lights and do things by candlelight. This is to lower the electricity requirements of the city, and therefore reduce carbon emissions.

I ask everyone who is considering this to do one piece of research: PLEASE LOOK INTO THE TYPE OF ELECTRICITY YOUR CITY RECEIVES.

My city gets its electricity from hydro. Water flows down (due to gravity) and pushes a turbine, which generates power. Carbon emissions are NOT generated.

Candles operate by burning wax and wick to generate light. They DO generate carbon emissions (in trace amounts).

So in my city, technically, turning off your light to burn a candle does harm to the environment.

In cities that generate their electricity by burning coal or oil, then Earth Hour is a good thing. Candles do significantly less harm than coal.

But many forms of electricity are clean. Hydro. Nuclear (in theory). Wind. Solar. If your home is powered by any of these forms, then Earth Hour makes no difference. In fact, on paper, it does more harm than good.

So if you're planning to participate in this event, then please do your research first.

That is all. Smile

I've no idea, but it's cool all the same Laughing . I'm currently researching it.

Taral, that's a smart idea. I've looked into it, myself, but so far I haven't managed to find anything definitive. That may be because people use different energy suppliers from one house to another, so we don't have a universal energy supplier supplying the entire city.

Sorry for the double post, but this doesn't have anything to do with the previous one.

Doesn't Saturn's moon, Iapetus, look a bit like a Death Star?

::pop::

Leap years were created to account for the fact that the rotations of the earth in a solar year do not evenly divide up to 365 (days). Most calenders necessarily have some time differential to make it even out; ours just uses an extra day every four years.

The idea that we would somehow be seven months behind if we didn't have leap years makes no sense since the same amount of time passes no matter what way you choose to document it (the earth rotates once per day on it's axis and once around the sun per year) and it will even out over time even if you make no means to establish a standard repeating number of days every year.

Besides, the supposed date for the Mayan Apocalypse in 2012 is given in our calender date, not theirs, so that date is accounting for leap years.

So we're all gonna die. Still.

I got two random spams on Twitter from the same user.

And that's it. They don't appear to be advertising or have any links in their bio, it's the most pointless spam ever. Still blocking though.

For Americans who don't know, Dermot O'Leary is a real person, he presents lots of things and is on TV a lot. As is Richard Bacon. I think I've heard the name Chris Tarrant though.

Random thing: many months ago I played a zombie apocalypse flash game often while listening to the Carpenters. Now when certain Carpenters songs come up (such as Top of the World) my mind creates little flash backs to blasting zombies with a variety of handguns.

I can't decide whether I'm more fascinated by the audio memory that associates certain sounds with specific events/activities or by the stark contrast between the lyrics of Top of the World and a zombie apocalypse.

I'm just wondering how those two ever went together for you. Confused

On a related note: I watched Night of the Twisters a million times as a kid. On about my 7th viewing, my best friend and I were watching the movie in my parents' room, where the carpet had just been sprayed with carpet cleaner. For whatever reason, that final viewing traumatized me, and I was terrified of bad weather for about 3 years. To this day, the smell of carpet cleaner sends me back to that afternoon watching the film with my best friend. Odd how things associate themselves with memory.

Indeed. I have a heater in my room, and the smell of its fuel source being burned at full power always reminds me of Assassin's Creed (and Outremer in general). Also, I associate Tomb Raider with Britney Spears' Hit Me Baby One More Time Shocked .

I associate songs by Akon with that time I had my cell phone and digital camera stolen and almost got assaulted.

My idiot roommate invited a friend over. He brought his friends. They asked to use my computer (I was very trusting back then). They took my phone, my camera, and my good rum. When I went to confront them about it, the one guy almost beat the crap out of me (his buddies calmed him down). I got the phone back right away, and got the camera back later (they tried to con me out of money for it, but I got reimbursed).

When they were on my computer, they downloaded Akon songs. So there's the association.

I never liked Akon, so the point his moot, but I find myself changing the station when he plays.

I'm over the incident. It started a chain of events that led me to date my wife. Because of the incident, I moved out of that house and decided to live alone. Better neighbourhood, no terrible roommates, total independence, etc. And it turns out that the girl who I would end up marrying lived only a 20 minute walk from my new place, so it was easy for us to visit each other when we dated (and I never would have had her go to the other place; it was sketchy, and my one roommate was a terrible person). So all's well that ends well I suppose.
