Your Earliest Memory of Star Wars

I can remember the first time I saw Star Wars, I was either 5 or 6, and it was Return of the Jedi at a neighbor's house, but all I think I saw was the Jabba's palace portion and I recall being afraid of Jabba and the other aliens.

The original Star Wars was the last one that I saw, because I remember I was at my best friend's house when I was in 1st grade and we started watching it because I'd never seen it, and I think we got to the point where Owen and Beru are killed. And I wasn't enjoying it because I was accustomed to Luke being a hero, not a farmboy.

And back then the copies I saw were all the VHS 1990 release that have the promo:

so I'd seen The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi a lot before I'd seen Star Wars, but in this promo there are a lot of scenes in the original that I'd never seen, and I remember always being enthralled when it showed the Mos Eisley cantina with the Arcona popping his head up.

And my cousin, who is three years older than me, had seen them all and was a big Boba Fett fan so I was too. And I saw Heir to the Empire in his room one day which resulted in me getting The Glove of Darth Vader, which wasn't bad because I was like seven years old. But then I moved onto the Thrawn trilogy and Dark Empire.

Probably seeing the small article in issue #6 of Starlog in early '77. It wasn't even a full page, but featured one McQuarrie's pre-production illustrations (the one with the lightsaber wielding Stormtroopers). By the time the next issue came out with the X-Wing on the cover I was totally hooked and could not wait for the movie to come out.

I went to see ROTJ when I was 4. The daycare that I was in took us to see it. I've been hooked ever since. I also remember watching the Ewoks cartoon as a little kid.

On a side note....In the '90s my friends and I went to see the Special Edition OT in the theaters. I had a friend who is 6'6" and everytime we went to the movies he dressed as Vader. One time, we were standing in line to get pop-corn and all these little kids were looking at him so, he turned to look at them. Then said,"Boo!!" He scared some of the little kids but, the parents just laughed and laughed.

My earliest memory was seeing the stormtroopers fight the rebels on the Tantive IV when I was 5. We had the OT Special Edition VHS boxset, and I was hooked. A year later, we got Episode I on VHS, and even though I liked it, it still didn't top the originals. Even at the young age of 6, I still understood that the OT was king!

My mom said she took me to see ROTJ in theaters, but i don't remember it. I would've been about 3 or 4 at the time.

The first time I really remember is watching ANH on VHS when I was probably 6 or 7. I remember watching the Trench Run and being on the edge of my seat wondering if Luke was going to make it. But then I also thought to myself "Of course he makes it there are 2 other movies" Laughing

When i was 4 i was at my grandma's house with two of my cousins. my grandma turned on star wars a new hope. i had no idea it was star wars at all until like three years later when i watched all six movies on spike. i watched 4 then 5 then 6 then 1 then 2 then 3. my friend told me about LEGO star wars that he was playing and then i played the original trilogy and i was hooked. i wanted to know everything about everything about star wars Very Happy

Oddly enough, I don't recall going to see Star Wars when it was released but I'm sure I did. I do remember going to the ABC cinema in town to see 'Empire Strikes Back', and I was familiar with SW then - I knew the characters and the setting - so I must have seen the first movie. I think what struck me most in ESB was the actors riding the tauntauns; the mix of live action and stop motion was very unusual and so well done. The SW movies just seemed head and shoulders above other sci-fi, visually, especially as most of the sci-fi I saw was low-budget or dated TV stuff like Dr Who, Blakes 7 or original Star Trek.

I saw 'Return of the Jedi' on holiday and more clearly remember seeing that one - the speeder bike chase was just awesome and seemed far more like magic than the space battles.
