That's what I fine weird about ANH, I always forget how long it is and that that it has the Death Star battle is in it. But it had to have a clear beginning-middle-end as Lucas didn't know how successful it would be.

As a film it has a very clear structure of a start middle an end which most of the other movies bar maybe Jedi havent got. Even Jedi starts off with Han trapped in carbonite, something that if it had been a standalone wouldnt have made sense. In fact the whole story wouldnt have made sense. You would feel you missed a lot and of course you would have.

When Lucas knew he was making Empire he structured it as middle act of a play with an open ending because he knew Jedi would wrap things up.

When he approached the prequels he knew he would be making a trilogy and as such structured it as such. TPM may end with Naboo being liberated but there is an open ending to it as it focuses on the fact a sith lord is still out there and Anakin is about to begin his training.

Actually if you really look at it only ANH could be a standalone.

I would remake episodes II and III so that they are PG rated, cause my parents won't let me watch them till I'm 15 cause they are M.

I'm not sure if AotC really warrants an M rating. I don't think it's any more violent than the others (besides RotS).

I thought they were all U except for RotS. And that's because of like 10 seconds of burny Ani.

They were all PG here except for ROTS which was PG 13. My youngest son saw ROTS when he was 9. I don't think it scarred him for life. He actually had a much stronger reaction to Hunger Games when we saw it and he's 16 now. ROTS barely deserved that PG-13 rating.

People complain about the U.S. movie rating system, but in this case I think it's a lot more accurate than what you guys are using. Or I could just be misunderstanding your rating system.

I saw RotS when I was 12 and it was fine.

I saw it when I was 11 (almost 12) and I was more repulsed by Order 66 and the Youngling slaughter than I was with Vader's burning. However, the scene was very graphic and I think the rating was justified.
