The Krayt Thing!

The Mortis tie-ins. I still believe it would have worked better if dropped earlier and to me it felt tacked on, but it was a good idea.

Maybe it's because I've never seem the Mortis episode it ties into, but it didn't feel tacked on to me. Could they have introduced it sooner, of course. But, it's clear to me that they wanted to leave her a mystery until the end. The whole mystery bit added to the character and the threat she posed. If they had given it away too soon, they tossed the threat of the unknown out the window.

Now I've never been a fan of Abeloth and think he story should have ended several books sooner and had the lost tribe be the main villain instead of becoming cannon fodder for Abeloth.

The writer complained that they risked Lucas ruining the story if they decided to readdress Mortis in the cartoon. But they made it very clear that they couldn't completely trust the info given, even if it turns out to be true, because of the source. So that can easily be fixed using that built in out. I actually think it was rather clever of them to work it in rather then risk another Commando situation.

Denning didn't even TRY to put it in till he was writing Apocalypse. Its not just that it felt tacked on, its that it WAS tacked on.

Denning didn't write the earlier books where it would have made sense to start introducing the information, I don't see how that's his fault.

Plus there's a difference between tacking something on and leaving the reveal to the end. Yes, they made mention at the start of the series they weren't exactly sure how they were going to explain Abeloth, but that was supposedly solved when they were working on the middle three books. To me, this feels more of they wanted to leave it to the end then them just tacking it on.

They gave hints through the series, even in the first book on Kessel, that she had something to do with the Celestials, the Killicks, Centerpoint, ect. That's why so many people were tossing around theories as to who or what she was. They just decided to wait till the end to confirm anything.

The original plan was something more radical, attempting to tie all that in together. Its not Denning's fault, he just found a better explanation and tossed it in. It felt undeveloped. I don't mind the ultimate reveal at the end, but nothing hinted towards Mortis at all. Absolutely nothing.

people, here (I think) and on other forums, were talking about Abeloth in relation to Mortis long before the book came out. I know this because I don't watch The Clone Wars and knew about Mortis before I read the book. So there had to be something that happened in the books that put people minds to Mortis. What it was, I have no clue, but there had to be something.
