I dunno, the Vong nearly won. I would have thought that Krayt would have come out to combat them. When they took Coruscant I think he would have looked at that as a bad sign. You're right though, he is quite altruistic.

I did read that segment and loved it! I love Vergere's moral ambiguity and wouldn't have them change it. A retcon (or at least another one) would bother me for the thousandth time its happened.

I've passed halfway, and considering my reading rate as of late, that's incredibly impressive! Hoping to finish it within the next week or so, though that will depend on what happens once I get back to school. Which starts back Monday.

Sorry Mara. Don't take my word for it, though. Other people have enjoyed it. Wink

I'm not sure if it was the book itself (heck, there were parts I really enjoyed) or just how it reminded me what a mess Star Wars mythology has become. I also didn't enjoy the first half. Far too much carnage.

I actually quite enjoyed the carnage. I know it shouldn't be central to every book to have that, but we're fighting for the fate of the galaxy here, people are going to die. And lots of them.

I won't use any hackneyed quites like "war is hell" but talk to any person who's ever fought in combat, and they'll tell you that portrayals like that aren't particularly inaccurate (at least when you're dealing with building-clearing warfare, other types are different).

And I liked the carnage. It was the finale to a nine book series. I'm okay that there wasn't so much plot or character arc in this, because it was essentially one story told in nine parts. The plot and characterisation occurred before and after this, so not much, I feel, was necessary in the first half of the book. It felt like a finale, that's really all I can say. (though of course I tried to say so much more Razz ).

Oh!

Reep, you do realize you're comparing a book to a movie, two completely different mediums.

^ True. I'll say Mockingjay then.

@Darth_Henning: I could name a bunch of stories where I knew the good guys wouldn't die that didn't bore me. I think it was the sheer length. 100+ pages is really pushing it.

Finished! Overall, I liked the book. I had fun reading it, and that's the most important thing. Of course, there were bits that made me frown, but not too much, and iffy bits, but not too many. Now time to catch up on the spoiler posts!

I believe it was Cerrinea who said that since Legacy means anything written between this and that is saddening because it all ends up badly

What did I say here? Because I'm sure I've never said that. I've said that I think Legacy is now open; it can remain the same, partially be changed, or become non-canon (unlikely imo). About the only criticism I've had of Legacy is that I felt it was set too close to current era which hemmed in the story telling because the authors and the readers knew where it was going to end up in a 100 years. The only other criticism I had of Legacy was bringing in the OJO Jedi. It just felt forced, and I did not like Hett being Krayt. And the story of Hett and Obi-Wan on Tatooine was stale and unimaginative -- not to mention doing disservice to Obi-Wan.

I actually think Denning fixed those issues with Apocalypse, and has reinvigorated the current time in the EU.

You never said that specifically, but you said something along the lines of it casting a shadow because no matter what the stories did it wound up in tragedy. I'd have to dig back about 4 or 5 pages to find it, and its meaning was kinda taken out of context with that attribution there, but I know what he's talking about.
