*edit: sorry, forgot this forum is about EU characters. Not that Wedge had much character in the films; pretty much everything beyond his name was developed in the EU. I've written it so I'll leave it up with the apology
I'm a Wedge fan; I'm hoping he'll make some kind of appearance in Mercy Kill as it's been too long without him.
He fascinates me because there's such a duality to his character. Han doesn't want to know the odds - he just throws himself into the situation. Wedge works out the odds first, but may well just throw himself in anyway. He's both a calculating engineer, and a stereotypical Corellian. Wedge has immense self-discipline (Jedi masters find him hard to read) but is also very passionate - quite capable of taking revenge. God help anyone who gets between Wedge and his family, whether it's the Yuuzhan Vong or the Galactic Alliance even.
Doesn't hurt that he's good-looking too, even if he doesn't think so himself. He's modest and unassuming in some ways, and never ambitious. However, he knows his own capabilities and worth. Wedge doesn't boast about his skills, or show off (except occasionally when flying), but he'll say when he thinks he's the best man for the job. As he gets older, he feels his record should speak for itself, and gets annoyed if anyone is disrespectful of what he's done. I love the moment in 'Exile' when he tells Jacen that he (Jacen) should know that he (Wedge) wasn't behind the Corellian attack on Hapes 'because it failed'. Jacen doesn't argue with him...
