Sorry for the double post, but I watched the third episode last night. I thought it was excellent, even better than the first two. My only gripe is that Mako and Bolin are more than ever coming across as copies of Zuko and Sokka. I hope they're able to work up some personality of their own soon.

I see the Sokka in Bolin. I'm not really feeling that Mako is a copy of Zuko, at all.

New episode in the morning!

Mako and Bolin are what's holding me back from loving this show right now. Bolin tries to be Sokka, but he isn't nearly as funny. Even if he was, get your own character, man! Mako's a little less obvious but he's still Mr. Angsty like Zuko was.

They need time, though. I remember liking Sokka and Katara almost instantly, but in the early episodes I wasn't impressed with Aang. He seemed way too kiddish (the D.W. laugh didn't help), but now Aang is one of my favourite characters ever. Not just in "Avatar", but anywhere.

I agree that Mako isn't a direct copy of Zuko, but some elements are still there. Bolin, however, is even animated to make the same faces as Sokka. I do find myself laughing at him a bit, but they need to do more to give him his own sense of humor, instead of falling back on Sokka jokes. I dunnp, maybe I'm hard on him because Sokka was my favorite from the original series.

All that said, I am enjoying the show. Korra grows more likable with each passing episode and I really adore Tenzen.

Based on the last episode I think we will probably get a chance to see a more serious side of bolin develop.

With a kids show especially you have to kind of put direct character motivations right out front and then work on developing a deeper and more rounded character later on. The dynamic of having a serious character and one that is never serious creates an immediately accessible venue for comedy and drama and is an ancient archetype. Hello, C-3PO and R2-D2 anyone? It's not just Zuko and Sokka.

We had a pessimistic character the first time with Jet and I see a potential balance there to work that into Mako or Bolin. It would be more interesting to have it become Bolin, and Mako is more suited to being the tough but tender character that develops into a heroic role, although that is like Zuko too. The potential romantic rivalry between the two for Korra will also likely come into play.

Today's episode was okay for the first half. I was kind of dissapointed. But once they got to the gala, it was good. And the end was fantastic. And, I'll put this in spoilers:

Two theories on who Amon might be:

Today's episode was easily my favorite. I have a lot of feelings.

Oh! We haven't been following the rule!

Maybe we should wait until Korra has mastered the elements and gone into the Avatar State to use the emoticon. Then it will be a celebration.

Anyone have any thoughts on today's episode? I personally didn't care for it.

It had some really funny parts like the burping scene. I like Makorolin (that is the shipping of Korra between Mako and Bolin, double entendre intended.) I hope that doesn't resolve to be the end of it. The ending felt anti-climactic.

The show doesn't seem to really have a lot of clear direction, but I think we'll probably get more focused by mid season. They're introducing new characters practically every episode and those characters aren't just for for that one episode's story, so I think they are setting things up.

The episodes overall feel very short to me, but that might just be the weekly thing instead of the usual sitting down and watching 2 hour blocks of Avatar like I did the first season. It's been a really long time since I've watched a half hour TV show during it's airing, so I might just be used to longer format shows.

I didn't care for it much either, but there are early Avatar episodes I didn't care for. They're just setting the stage for the future. The writing wasn't as good as the first few, though, regardless of what their plans are.

I agree. I also felt that Korra's characterization was a bit off.

I think my favorite character is now Pabu.

I didn't not like it, but after the Revelation and the epic flashbacks, an entire episode centred on a love triangle is the last thing I wanted to see.
