Say Saturday was Free Comic Book Day...did anyone else get any free comics? If so, fee free to share what they were and if you liked them.

I picked up three.

1. Star Wars/Serenity: this was actually three comics in one as there was a part one segment for Allabaster in the middle. The Star Wars comic was a Han and Chewie story called "The Art of a Bad Deal." It was fun and not too bad. The style and feel of the comic was similar to Agent of the Empire. The story and dialog was good. The art and coloring was okay.

The Serenity story had perfect dialog that seamlessly matched the show. The story was a perfect fit. The art...was odd. It looked like something you would see in a newspaper cartoon. Kind of a mixed bag.

The Allabaster thing was only one page long and too short to really get a read on.

I also picked up Dinosaurs vs Aliens (which was really good) and another one called Jurassic Force Five (or something similar, wasn't that good).

I thought the Star Wars comic was ok. The other one I picked up was The New 52 Issue 1 which is launching Earth 2 stories. Overall not a bad FCBD but there's a reason they're free lol

Bah. I don't have a comic shop around here to get free comics from. Though I don't suppose free comic day is done online, too? I could have ordered the next KOTOR War issue and have gotten it for free!

Doesn't really work that way. Its a specific list of comics ffom Marvel, Dark Horse, Image, and DC that are offered for free. Some are first issues to gain interest by launching them free, some are one-shot stories like this year's Star Wars one. Believe me, if they let us pick a free comic I'd have had mine's Detective Comics #1 haha

Oh well. That's a shame. Thanks for the info, anyway.

Some of the FCBD offerings were available online, though. Dark Horse had there's available through their digital store.

You should try and find a shop that's a little further away from you (in the nearest city). If you buy regularly from them (as in, preorder and subscribe through them), then they'll probably hold your books, so you can just swing in and get them whenever you can get there. If they really like you, they might even put some Free Comic Book Day issues in there too.

I get to my shop about once a month, and they held the Star Wars/Serenity and the Buffy/Guild comics for me. Because I'm a regular. They can count on anywhere between $12 and $80 per month, depending on the number of TPBs/Omnibuses available for preorder that month. I'm on a first name basis with the owner and the GM (so when I go in for a pickup and they're busy with a Magic The Gathering tournament, which they often run, they recognize me and give me my issues real quick). It's a great relationship to have.
