It happens. Wink

You got me wondering though. Your post was either total sarcasm or government spam. Razz

@DP and Caedus: Thanks for your perspective on the accents. Weird how they don't just do regional accents. Maybe some fears that it may be thought of as racist?

And I'll probably skip IM2 and the first Hulk - though if I find them I'll tape them just to ease the completionist in me.

Oh, and I was going to finally get round to watching The Green Mile. I'd recorded it from Sky Anytime. But then my sister deleted it from the planner, thinking I'd taped it for mum. Kind of annoyed at her. And for another thing. Speaking of which ... *runs off to the gripe thread*

I don't and have never understood the dislike of the first Hulk film. It has Oscar Winner Ang Lee director and starring Osar winner Jennifer Connelly, and Eric Bana, quiet a fine actor in films like Munich and Black Hawk Down.

Hulk 2 is directed by the guy who did Clash Of the Titans remake, starring the mediocre Liv Tyler and Ed Norton who is often capable, but a waste in this film, IMO.

I'm gonna go all IMDB here and say that is you don't like the first movie it is because it's too high-brow for you. Hey, I want to see Hulk destroy everything just as much as the next person, but if you are going to include his existentialist dilemma, then do it right.

Hulk 2 had Norton brooding for ten minutes, then running around for the next half of the film, the absurd Tim Roth becoming Evil Hulk and then the climax of dueling Hulks smashing everything. Did I miss something here?

Hulk 2 is bad. Iron Man 2 is bad.

Captain America is merely decent.

The only movies that hit the mark are the first Iron Man and Thor.

These movies are popcorn fodder and nothing more. The idea that we need them to hold up the Avengers movie is a joke. It's really the other way around.

I can't speak for why the first Hulk is either good or bad, but one Batman & Robin had big name stars such as George Clooney, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chris O'Donnell and a director who seems to be pretty well respected - yet it is widely regarded as a bad film.

No offense Life, but those people can not be called good actors or are respected, except for Clooney. And reportedly he is ashamed of his role in that movie to the extent that he has said anyone making a request to him for their money back paid to see it will be personally given by himself.

The first Hulk movie SUCKED.

Ang Lee had no idea what he was doing. He wasn't a fan of the Hulk, and that was clearly. Everything from the acting to the editing sucked (seriously, he made parts of the movie look like actual frames from a comic book). He had the Hulk grow bigger depending on how angry he was. Oh, and he fights a bunch of monster-sized poodles and has terrible daddy issues because his dad abused him and his mom as a kid. The movie is SO BAD that Marvel doesn't consider it now part of their Marvel movie universe.

All the other Marvel universe flicks, however, rock. I think The Incredible Hulk is a marked improvement over the original, both in terms of acting and tone, and the action is much much much better.

Eric Bana is a good actor and Ang Lee is Oscar Nominated yes, but that doesn't mean what they do will be good. Hulk was disjointed and semi-coherent. Ang Lee had a vision but it had nothing to do with the character, it had to do with his interpretation of it.Between the inconsistent size of the Hulk and the horrible addition of Josh Lucas as an almost throw-away character the film suffered. David Banner's part in the film also came off as ridiculously stupid if you know anything at all about the source material and even if you don't the script was awful. There is nothing high-brow about this film. For high-brow films see Aronofsky, see Nolan's first film, see Terrence Malick, see Nicholas Winding Refn. Ang Lee didn't make a high-brow or artistic rendition of a Marvel character, he botched a blockbuster by trying to throw in too much of his own nonsense and insisting that his comic book frame shots were worth it. Edward Norton's film displayed him working with meditative techniques and attempting to hunt down a cure and while the film was more of a regular, standard film it came off as entertaining while the first one came off as long, inconsistent, and boring. Also, the guy who directed Clash of the Titans is indeed awful, but bad directors are still capable of pulling something good out of nowhere sometimes. As pointed out Joel Schumacher was a well respected director but Batman and Robin was terrible. Yes, Clooney offers people refunds for it, but its still an example of the opposite of what happened with The Incredible Hulk. One bad director made a decent film, one good director made one of the worst films ever made.

Watched Super 8 and Salt last night, and the movies couldn't be more different. Salt packed a punch - it's an action film after all - but didn't have an emotional thread. Agent Salt's motivation is saving her husband, but it's told through a series of generic flashbacks. I really liked seeing a female action hero, but I wish they went beyond the description, and given Agent Salt some depth. Super 8 made me nostalgic for a time period I've never lived. It was the escapist fun I needed after last week's craziness.

Next I'm having a Chris Evans marathon, starting with Fierce People. It was released in 2005, and looks like it's from the 1990s. Fierce People compares the lives of rich people to tribal people. I'm halfway through it, and it's not that bad...

I liked the first Hulk movie with Eric Bana. I never understood the dislike. The jumping around was a little silly, but that was just a small annoyance for me.

And I also agree that Iron Man 2 was not as good as the original.

I haven't seen Hulk 2 yet.

Not sure if you all have followed filmcritichulk, but his New Yorker piece really lays out the differences between the Hulk, Incredible Hulk, and the Hulk from the Avengers (spoilers for all 3 movies):
