Now I completely understand that worry, and while I still don't like the idea of bringing the Jedi vs. Sith battle to post ROTJ, I do think the LTOTS was a good way to do it, and I was actually interested in them. So, with this being a passing of the torch, do you guys want the big 3 gone, or for say Luke to take on more of a yoda role, being pretty much just an advisor.

Even Yoda only lasted about 30 minutes worth of screen time in the OT. Luke, Han, and Leia surviving all the time is getting unrealistic. Might be time to just finish it.

Exactly, that's what I was asking. Give Luke minor roles like that, or have him dead. So, from your comment I take it you want him dead? And personally, I could go either way, but if he dies, he needs to go out in a blaze of glory!!!!

With Luke I could stand it if he faded into obscurity and went quietly. His character has earned that, or a vanishing or something. Han and Leia, however, need to go out in a blaze of glory with the Falcon, arms around each other, smart-a** remarks flying, love in the air, and millions saved with the death of 2 people.

I agree. After all Luke has gone through, for him to die and not see the new generation blossom would just be tragic. However I just can't picture Han retiring, and at this point in their relationship I don't want to see Leia without Han. And Lando needs to stay right where he is!!

SETS UP NEW SERIES: With this book, Han, Luke, and Leia are passing the torch to the next generation of Star Wars heroes, and the stage will be set for the next major Star Wars series.

The 'new series' thing is confusing, since they have stated that they're concentrating on standalones, duologies and trilogies (I'm too lazy to keep on typing that. Henceforth, it shall be known as Darth ... 1/2/3.). Having said that, I like the idea of passing on a torch to the younger generation. I want Luke to go quietly, as has been stated, and for Han and Leia to die in a big way. Chewie had a moon fall on him. I want a planet for them!

Sad as it was, Chewie's death was the epitome of epic. I want even better for the others. So it is written, so it better be done. Cool

Wait... another "major series"? I though they weren't going to do that for a while. Confused

Perhaps it will just be a trilogy, but starring next gen characters. It would fit with what we've learned about this book, and I would consider that major.

Just read some of the announcement stuff on this and the words "...something bigger than Abeloth or the Sith to face" really bother me. Why do they always have to go bigger? Bigger isn't always better. All film franchises learn this when they descend into over-stylized nonsense instead of well-plotted story. I'm just not sure this will be worth it...

Sadly, going bigger is very common story telling technique. And while we may not like it, there are many people out there, most likely the majority of people, who do like to see the threats get bigger and bigger.

It's one reason why they shouldn't keep using the same characters for so long, after a while the threats people want them to face getting start getting ridiculous.

Star Wars, The Walking Dead, Batman, everything I read regularly is crumbling into the ridiculous. This is why I've started avoiding anything continuing. I like new things because they don't need to be huge or anything like that.

Not to get too off-topic or anything, but Batman is another thing (along with the EU) that I'm just beginning to read. How's it ridiculous?

When he died, than came back to life because apparently the shot that killed him launched his essence into the past so that he could leap for ward in time and build energy to destroy the universe. That's when it got ridiculous.
