I had to switch rooms, so I unplugged my laptop and unintentionally caused the computer to shut down. My audio is now distorted, filled with rhythmic buzzing in the background. Any suggestions?

EDIT: It only acts up when I'm on youtube, using Google Chrome as my browser. Weird.

Update your Adobe Flash and Adobe Shockwave players. It's a known problem. Flash 11.3 is bugged to hell, causes Firefox to lock up like crazy.

I need a Cloud Software that can be accessed by multiple people, probably around three. I don't need massive storage, just enough for a few documents and maybe a few photos. Any ideas?

I've got my stuff, just the one document at the moment (which is very important intellectual property of mine), stored on Google Documents, but Google is creepy cos it says it owns all my stuff, can reproduce it, profit off it etc.

I've been told Dropbox is good, but am unsure on the legal ownership specifications.

Bonus question: If I move my stuff off of Google, will they still own it?

Heard mixed things about Dropbox, great for convenience, not so hot in terms of security. And as for your Google question, they can't own what they don't possess, you've removed your data.

Came across a right nasty little bugger of a virus today at work. Takes over your whole machine apart from Safe Mode with a fullscreen pop-up saying the police have detected illegal activity and your IP (which it shows) and machine have been blocked and you'll need to pay a £100 fine to gain access to your machine again. You then have to buy a 'voucher' and use their onscreen keyboard to enter the code.
Have two users with it. Very well designed and implemented I'll give them that, looks pretty 'official'. Embeds itself very deep into the OS kernel, no anti-virus/anti-malware software on Windows or Linux is picking it up to remove it. Nightmare to remove manually as well, spent most of the afternoon attempting to and will be continuing to do so tomorrow. Will probably have to resort to wiping the machines clean though.

Usually when they're that embedded, a wipe is the only guarantee of a clean sweep. Annoying, but at least it's an option. And a machine wipe really isn't as daunting as it might have been a few years ago. It seems to be becoming an easier task.

Oh yeah definitely, if it was my machine I'd just wipe it with no hesitation, but there's 'important data on there'. So important they cba to move it to their network drive which is backed up, unlike the local drive Rolling Eyes

My attitude of 'meh, that's not my problem, you should have backed it up' isn't shared by everyone unfortunately Sad

Still, I like a challenge so tomorrow is going to be fun.

I have a new adapter and battery, but still the laptop won't recognize the adapter. How do I fix this?

I've had no Internet for a solid 24 hours now, with it dropping every twenty minutes or so for the previous 3 months.

Anyone help me? It works on this computer (a PC laptop near the router) but on the upstairs Mac it's ridiculous. In the network preferences it says "Wifi is connected to [my wifi] and has no IP address and will not be able to the Internet," or "[my wifi] has the self assigned IP address xxx.xxx.x.x"

Why is it assigning itself an IP address? We've bought the Mac down to the same room as the router (where this computer is) but it still doesn't work. It's REALLY annoying, can anyone help?

Got the full version of Windows 8 Pro installed and up and running (I'm a Technet subscriber so I get early access). Pretty impressed, have polished off a lot from the Consumer Preview and it's going to keep me occupied trying to find all the little hidden away features for a while.

One big problem, 'dynamic ticking*' for the processor is bugged and causes random lockups with no error message at all and you have to hard-reset the computer. Work around is to open an elevated command prompt and use the following command:

bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes

*for anyone who's not sure what this is, the processor 'ticks' a certain rate, similar to a clock, and the operating system receives these interrupts to perform tasks. If your computer is idle, the processor will continue to tick away which eats up power and slows the computer down as the OS is constantly being interrupted for no reason.
Dynamic ticking basically batches together the ticks if the PC is idle and sends them only when something 'interesting' happens, e.g. waking up, a preconfigured task starting to run.

Ok so I'll be going away on a trip this coming week and it involves air travel. So my question is: can the airport security baggage x-ray machine damage my laptop in any way? While I'd like to be able to take my laptop with me I don't want to find out I accidentally fried the system or had data get erased.
