Does this finally mean Jaina will play a key role in SW books after fading into the background following NJO? I sure hope so!

It looks like Del Rey really wants to please their fans. First Crucible pretty much announces the Big 3's "retirement" and now possibly a trilogy focusing on Jaina Solo. This could be really cool. Not to be ungrateful, but on the other hand, artists are usually better off developing stories from their own imaginations and with genuine inspiration than trying to please an audience. Just saying.

I'm really excited, but I do worry about one thing: will this trilogy be in hardcover or paperback? I really hope it's in paperback, because I'm getting a little tired of paying 2-3 times as much for a hardcover.

About bloody time they give Jaina something to do other than sitcom with Jag. This is exciting. I may actually shell out money for this depending on how my library read of Crucible goes.

My guess is it may only be to sound cool so that new fans could pick it up. I'm not entirely sure if I'm, over all, okay with that, since as Mara said it wouldn't mean much beyond that. But, at the same, it could get new fans interested in the non Big 3, and that could be beneficial to the EU.

I've started to quite like Jaina. She grew into a less whiny person over FOTJ. Besides, I'm betting there'll be quite a bit of Jag in this, too. The only (maybe not only, but the biggest) problem I've had with Jaina - and Jag - in the recent books is that 'oh! You won't risk war with the GA! My parents sooo would have! We can't get married!'. Now that they are married, I don't think either the author or the editors would force such a poorly developed drama.

Wait, I just remembered: Christie Golden wrote that scene. And the mess up with the Callista reveal Confused

I'm sure there won't be a problem like that, though.

I guess it could have been worse. It could have been Karen Miller.

I like Christie Golden. I think Omen and Allies were my favourite of the FOTJ books. Let's give her a chance.

@Mad Wook: Agreed. I liked the story of the Gambit books, but hated the dialogue. And I did not enjoy Wild Space. Again, the dialogue.

Golden's dialogue was really good, especially among the Lost Tribe.

Golden was writing FOTJ as part of a 3 person team with Allston and Denning, each with many SW books under their belts. Now she'll be writing solo, giving her more freedom, and she won't have each book placed in between the books of two SW veterans.

I wasn't super impressed with Christie Golden, but I'd like to see what she can do outside of the quagmire that was Fate of the Jedi. These books might really define what being the Sword of the Jedi means. I'm hoping Jaina will play an "Emperor's Hand" role for the Jedi, sneaking past rules and bureaucracy to deliver true justice. Similar to what she did with Dark Meld (and with Hamner out of the way and the Jedi separating from the GA it might work out easier). I think they could do a lot with her character from there. And, of course, she learned from the best.
