Favourite bands from the '80s? Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motorhead. Great era for metal. 2 of of the most iconic metal albums of all time were released in the '80s- "Master Of Puppets- Metallica" and "Reign In Blood- Slayer".

I put this here instead of the other music thread because, well, I'm in a blissful mood because of this!

As of December 2011 (I just found out, I'm slow sometimes) all of Weezer's lost album (Songs from the Black Hole with the exception of two 30 second instrumentals has been released. I have comprised playlists of both tracklistings and I'm going to spend my work day rocking out to old, lost, amazing Weezer. I'm going to be so over-joyed tonight Very Happy

Never really listened to them much but really enjoyed their set at Sonisphere last year.

So... my favourite band is dead. Worse than dead.

Owl City has received an over-produced makeover thanks to "collaborations" with other song writers. Owl City's music was quirky and I can see it not working for everyone, but it did the right thing for me. The new stuff is so... boring though. Typical radio crap. Here's hoping he goes independent. Sad

Which songs are you referring to? I love Owl City, but I don't pay attention to what's new and what's not. I just know which songs I like, which are a lot of them. Smile

Basically any of the songs from his upcoming album The Midsummer Station.

Examples:

"Good Time". The radio single (with a surprise guest):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7HmzwI67ec

"Gold":

Now I'm not one of those music elitists who reject anything that follows the standard verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus or anything like that. I can still listen to the new stuff and somewhat enjoy it... but as background noise. It doesn't touch my heart like it used to. Just compare one of those songs to something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVHdSuc8HE4
and you'll immediately notice the difference. His lyrics where quirky, but (for me at least) very aesthetically appealing. The melodies where sweeping. Now the lyrics are forgettable and the melodies are unoriginal. His music used to give me goosebumps, but the new stuff is lucky if it gets a finger tap.

I can't wait for that one! Very Happy

Ah, I've heard none of his newer music. I've been stubbornly replaying all of the older CDs. Galaxies and Angels are two of my favorites. They're a little newer, I suppose. And I may have lied, I think I have heard bits and pieces of Good Time. And agreed, I didn't like it. Confused

His old CDs (Of June, Maybe I'm Dreaming, Ocean Eyes, All Things Bright and Beautiful) pretty much live in my CD player. Razz At least I'll always have them. And who knows, maybe he will go independent. I can't imagine he's happy being creatively stifled like that.

I an crazy about Electric Light Orchestra! It's one of my favorite bands which includes: Coldplay, The Killers Wink, Owl City, Evanescence, anything operatic or musical and all things 80's.

Anyone ever heard Viva La Vida from Coldplay? For some reason I think that song is prior to Anakin's situation. I don't know but every time I listen to that song I think about Vader's death and that what is sung in the song could have been pretty much what was going though his head in his last moments. Crying or Very sad
