I thought about that too, i have no idea. I dont think it was for burglers though. (what would they want with an exhaust shaft?)

What I always wondered about is why no one hit the wall projectors with their lightsaber. It didn't look like those were shielded so couldn't you disable the wall just by destroying one of the projectors?

Maybe it wasn't so much to keep things out as it was to keep things in? It is an exhaust port right? so maybe it works kinda like a flood gate on a dam in regulating how much stuff is getting pumped out at a time?

That makes sense, SV. Never thought about it that way.

And as for the wall projectors, you could blow those up in the Lego game. So they did think of that idea, if belatedly. Very Happy

Maybe they wanted to catch their breath?

Everytime i watch that scene it really bothers me. I wish Qui-Gon Jinn would have tried to get back to Obi Wan.

He got in too much of a hurry. There are a couple of times in the novels where they talk about how he was always sure he was right and that he didn't always need help. Sometimes his methods seemed to border on those dark side lines.

Hmm...what if Obi-Wan's boots had had less traction, eh? Would have slid right into those energy fields. Goodbye saga!

I always assumed Darth Maul used the Force to open and close the energy thingummys.

I'm not so sure; after Maul gets Jinn, he waits for Obi-Wan. If Maul had controlled them, I think Maul would have activated his lightsabers earlier or right when the shield drops so Kenobi wouldn't get much warning. Since they both activated their sabers at the same time and what seems to be a second before the shield dropped, they both sensed it about to open and got ready. My take on it anyway.

Ya I assumed they were automatic as well. Maybe they opened to let the exhaust out? It was an exhaust shaft after all, or maybe let in air or something.

It never did make much sense to me except Lucas saying he needed someway to separate Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. Smile

I guess if you want you can always say that in-universe those walls were designed by the same people who thought of putting an exhaust port on the Death Star. I mean they both serve the same purpose of creating a dramatic battle so its possible.
