You didn't scare the **** out of me, but you certainly helped it along.' _________________ I am a Star Wars fan. That doesn't mean that I hate or love Jar Jar. That doesn't mean I hate or love Lucas, or agree or disagree 100% with him. That doesn't mean I prefer the PT over the OT, or vice versa. That doesn't mean I hate the EU, or even love all of it. These are not prerequisites. Being a man is not a prerequisite. Being a geek is not a prerequisite. The only prerequisite is that I love something about Star Wars. I am a Star Wars fan.

Even a bad painting can burn nicely and keeps you warm, you can use a small statue as a hammer, bad music to scare away predators,..... Not useless at all.

Putting my Indy Fedora on art in one form or another is one of the primary ways we identify cultures and understand how past groups understood or related to the world they lived in. That's not just for the old mummies and guys that died 5,000 years ago, it also applies to our immediate ancestors from the 19th century or even earlier. Take your favorite coffee mug for example, the glazed pattern or even the physical way the clay was molded is art and will give an archaeologist of the future a glimpse into our lives and tell them a bit about our culture. (Remember even a mass produced ceramic coffee mug had to have a photographer or artist design the original image). Or think about how you know what group you want to/don't want to hang out based on whether they are wearing something like the a t-shirt with the artwork/logo of your favorite band. We actually use art on everyday objects to asert membership in a group or just to say something about our individual identity. It doesn't have to be a great work of art to say something about a culture or the past. Unless we want to get all stuffy and say unless it is worthy of being displayed next to a piece by Da Vinci it isn't art. But that would be a whole other ball game. _________________

The origin is that people would stick their tongue into their cheek as an expression of contempt. Has nothing to do with talking while poking your cheek with your tongue _________________
