Why do you need two eyes to be a predator? How do you explain one-eyed pirates?

Having two eyes is what gives us depth perception. The stereo vision we get from two eyes is computed into a 3D image in our head. People with one eye tend to have problems with depth perception.

Predator species tend to have both eyes in front of their face (like we do), to take advantage of that depth perception (to know exactly where their prey is, how far away, etc.). Prey species tend to have their eyes far apart or on their sides; they have less need for depth and instead need a wide field of view to see predators.

A predator who does not know how far away his next meal is will not have a good time of catching it.

Also, regarding your pirate point, recent evidence (explored by the Mythbusters) showed that most pirates who wore eyepatches weren't one-eyed, but were taking advantage of the night-vision effect of covering one eye at all times. If they needed depth perception, they could probably remove the patch for a bit. But regardless, when I use the word "Predator", I mean in terms of nature (animals who catch and eat other animals) and not sociology (a person who preys on the weak).

I'm actually half blind in one eye, so this explains why I can't see 3D.
