To sell books, they're gonna have a lot of books during this time even to the point where Han, Luke, and Leia are doing everything simultaneously. It doesn't make in-universe sense, but from from a business point of view, I totally get it. ! There's still plenty of room to do Han/Leia/Luke stories, they just have to start thinking about when to set them a little more. There are roughly 75 works between ANH and 1 year ABY. Yet from 13 months to 3 years ABY (ESB) there are only about 30 (this is based on my last timeline update, numbers for both are slightly higher but you get the idea). Somewhat disproportionate. There is no reason that all the "classic trilogy" stories have to occur OMGZ, ITS RIGT AFTER ANH GUYZ!!. There's two years of timeline where they can tell the same stories without everything crushing together, and it would have little to no effect on the stories/plot lines themselves. This is why it bugs me that Allegiance and Choices are moved from the very logical date of 2 ABY to 1 ABY in the ERC, because it just creates more problems unnecessarily. By all means, expand on the classic stories, that's what draws a lot of people to Star Wars in the first place. But take a few moments to consider the loyal fans too.

Surprisingly (to me anyway), Scoundrels is even earlier in the timeline (in the order of a few weeks after Yavin). That though, actually makes sense when you mesh it with the Marvel comics, etc where Han loses his reward money and needs to get it back. I'm not against putting something in that timeframe if it fits with established canon. Just don't cram it in for funzies.

According to Sue the dates were (thanks to Arawn for posting this in my timeline thread so I didn't have to dig): Jedi Twilight: 18.8 BBY Street of Shadows: 18.46 BBY Patterns of Force: 18.3 BBY I'm taking these as continuing to be the official dates. I am a tad surprised that they mixed Last of the Jedi into the same time frame though. I had taken it as occurring afterwards because the portrayal of Obi-wan in the first couple books makes it seem like he's been on Tatooine for a while at that point. Additionally, it means that Vader is jumping back and forth quite a bit between dealing with Pavan and Olin. But it is workable given the time-length of each work.

I'm just saying that the references that put it at 18 years before have only ever used 18 with the respective decimals, so it is 18 years before (from a certain point of view), as it is technically not yet 19 years before. Semantics I know.
