Just announced at New York Comic Con, John Jackson Miller will be writing Kenobi, a hardcover novel with a late 2013 release.

Quote:
Kenobi is a sweeping story thatís part epic western, part high-stakes drama, part romance ó but itís all Star Wars, taking place in the early days of Obi-Wanís exile to Tatooine. I shouldnít expand too much beyond what Random House said on its panel and Facebook page, but I can say this. Iíve been working on this concept for years ó Iíll talk more about that process later on ó and the basics are pretty simple. The greatest hero in the galaxy faces his toughest challenge yet: He must stop being Obi-Wan ó and learn to live as Ben.

This could be really good. Between this, the Rebel series, and the Sword of the Jedi trilogy, I'm actually starting to get excited about Star Wars again. Smile

Most excited I've ever been for a Star Wars book. This is the story I've wanted forever.

I'm meh on this. Nothing against the book - it has all the ingredients of being a good book - I'm just meh on Star Wars right now.

...part romance?

I'm still excited for this, but Miller's writing in the comics hasn't been too awesome lately so I'm cautious.

Have you been reading LTOTS, Spiral? That story shows how exciting and wtf it can get even though the characters are stuck on a planet.

Yeah, I saw the romance thing too. I always said Obi-Wan was a player, and he does have a lot of time on his hands on Tatooine. Very Happy

For those who want the art as a background with no writing: Chris Scalf deviantart link, note that there is an option to download a larger screen resolution.

For me, the thing that really has my interest is the "western" reference. Star Wars has always had a space western theme going for it, and I'm eager to see where John Jackson Miller takes it. Also, this is a story of how Obi-Wan become Crazy Old Ben. I'm foreseeing heartbreak and wild adventures on Tatooine. Kind of like the gunslingers who attract too much attention and then try to quietly retire out of the spotlight.

Now I wouldn't criticize John based on his comic writing. Comics and novels are very different things. But I really liked Knight Errant (the novel) and the Lost Tribe short stories, so I think this will be good.
