Lil Jacen with his lightsaber is hilarious and adorable.

My interview with Del Rey editor Erich Schoeneweiss covers the Essential Reader's Companion, Legacy comics, and more: http://www.eucantina.net/archives/14445

Complimentary Ewoks to Luke92 and Skuldren for their fan questions. Smile

I think Erich was wrong in his answer about Krayt.

I thought it was purposely left ambiguous by Denning. So not really him...

According to the interview it confirms it to be him in ERC.

I'm pretty sure that Luke recognized Krayt in Beyond Shadows as the same man he saw at the spaceport on Coruscant.

He definitely did. I find Legacy very strange.

I thought that was the case, but I'm away from home for 2 weeks and couldn't check Apocalypse.

Well Erich's point is that the name "Krayt" is never used. And Troy Denning did say he left it vague. It will be up to future authors to decide if they want to have that be Krayt and roll with it from there, or if they want to make it someone else and go in a different direction. My feeling is that they want to keep as many options on the table as they can until they decide one way or another.

The ERC mentions Darth Krayt by name twice:

Quote:
The novel Apocalypse (2012) finds a unique way of including Darth Krayt in this era of storytelling (page 432)

Referring back to what Erich said about Krayt being mentally there in the interview.

Quote:
Though he's never named, the stranger who helps Luke defeat Abeloth is Darth Krayt, the hidden founder of the One Sith movement that would rule the galaxy in the Star Wars: Legacy comics (page 467)

If they wanted to leave it up in the air, why name drop him in an essential guide?

Exactly. Personally I just think Erich oopsed in the interview. Probably forgot that Luke recognized Krayt from his appearance on Coruscant. Which reminds me of:

The time during the FOTJ panel in 2009 (SDCC) that Shelly and Sue both said Boba Fett was on Mandalore running things. Yeah, if he had a death wish -- nanovirus. Major oops there.

Aha, I listened to an interview with Pablo Hidalgo on Star Wars Action News and they mentioned the Krayt thing in ERC. Pablo said that he did not have the final draft of Apocalypse when he did the summary for that book. He was working off the outline, and in the outline it mentioned him as Krayt so that's what he went with. It was changed afterwards to make it more vague.

So I guess we can assume that it is indeed Krayt we see on Coruscant. Would someone be kind enough to explain how that would not stack up with the Legacy comics?

Technically, no one (outside of the One Sith) is supposed to know that he exists until he reveals himself in the Legacy comics - however, since Luke doesn't actually know his identity, the authors can work around it.
