Finished The Liar. It was thoroughly entertaining. There were things I didn't like about it - chiefly the regular swapping of time periods, sometimes without clear indication of when it is (at one point I was imagining Healey as an old man, when in fact he was only about 1 , the main plot didn't really kick in until the last 100 pages or so, and the writing style is a little rough. As it's Stephen Fry's first novel, though, I felt rather lenient. Mainly because it was incredibly witty, charming and the twist at the end was superb. I'd quite recommend it. However, if you weren't a fan of Luceno's use of big words (to a degree that it hindered the book), you may not enjoy this book. Fry makes Luceno look like an amateur, in that regard.
I'm now reading Hunger Games. Sufficient time has passed since the hullaballoo a few months ago, and I'd forgotten most of what was said of it, so I thought now would be a good time to read it. Even then, I went in to it overly critical, not liking it very much, but it quickly grew on me. Katniss, especially. Well, at one point, when she got that 11, I did feel that she was encroaching on Mary Sue-ness, but looking back I don't think that's the case. She feels more rounded than that. Chiefly, she's quite a hard, somewhat unfriendly woman, and she's not presented in any other way - something that is ordinarily present in a 'Sue. _________________ I am a Star Wars fan. That doesn't mean I hate the EU, or even love all of it. These are not prerequisites. Being a man is not a prerequisite. Being a geek is not a prerequisite. The only prerequisite is that I love something about Star Wars. I am a Star Wars fan.
