Grove Troublemaker I don't care about Disney, although Pixar was better without them, merging them with ILM is a natural choice. But make no mistake, Disney effed up Marvel comics and the Avengers movie is crap. Did you think that Episode One was a big improvement because it was full of CGI and cheesy oneliners? That's what the Avengers is with ZERO continuity or recognition other than character names from it's source material. If that is what we are hoping for on the bright side, then count me out. _________________ They have taken the hearts and minds of our leaders. The Avengers (indeed all current Marvel) is more in continuity with the Ultimate characters, tand they're picking from certain stories rather than specific full arcs from the comics. If you hate the Avengers film for all the reasons you just listed you'll also have to rant in anger against Nolan's Batman films because they went the same way, picking from all sorts of stories and changing some characters so to be unrecognizable, but they wound up being great films anyway. _________________ Perfection is a lifelong pursuit requiring sacrifice. Grove Troublemaker I strongly disagree that Nolan's films are comparable to The Avengers in terms of the reason why I didn't like the movie. But you are correct about adaptations. Avengers is based on a largely alternate reality, as you said Ultimate. Nolan Batman, pretty nothing definite from the comics. And that is the precisely why it's bad for Star Wars. Not having a million different alternate realities that can push the reset button when they get too stupid to function is what made SW different. Well, we'll just have to learn to live with it or not. But ya know, maybe we are being too hasty. Besides the much beloved Thrawn, would wiping out the post ROTJ EU really be the worst thing for SW? It's something that we forsaw could happen for a long time, but I guess never really believed that it could actually. _________________ They have taken the hearts and minds of our leaders. And Canon is no longer canon at the moment. IN SW Canon is what GL determines it today. I'm sure Disney does too. They don't care about us. The fact of the matter is, we don't know what's going to happen. You can suspect, and you might be right, but it's pointless to write it off now just because of what might happen. I feel it's much better - and will perhaps keep you sane - if you are merely cautiously optimistic, or at the very least neutral about it. _________________ I am a Star Wars fan. That doesn't mean that I hate or love Jar Jar. That doesn't mean I hate or love Lucas, or agree or disagree 100% with him. That doesn't mean I prefer the PT over the OT, or vice versa. That doesn't mean I hate the EU, or even love all of it. These are not prerequisites. Being a man is not a prerequisite. Being a geek is not a prerequisite. The only prerequisite is that I love something about Star Wars. I am a Star Wars fan.

The divergences between CU and EU are going to become more pronounced in the months to come, thanks to the Clone Wars. Some things happen that make the two universes irreconcilable, and that was a deliberate choice. The new order of things is to split the films and the Clone Wars series into their own universe, and allow the EU to continue as it has without interruption. This should make anyone upset about the Clone Wars' discontinuity with established EU material happy.
