The problem with Wait And See is that we will be waiting a while until we finally get the word on what the story of the movie and it's EU status will be. Meanwhile the works that are in production and have already been developed will be releasing up till that point. If we keep going along, buying the EU materials and then have the rug dropped out on us while we were waiting, that will be a real crappy thing to do.

Yes and my fear is this is exactly what will happen.

Two universes completely seperate from each other.

the SW universe will be a genuine mulitverse.

Well, eonline just confirmed that episode VII will be an original story, and will not adapt a story from any existing books or comics.

From that video that George did talking about the announcement, they are in the very early stages for Episode VII. They are just now tossing around ideas for what the story would be. Plus George is just going to be a consultant. To me, that means there's nothing concrete on the story right now and it could go in any direction.

That said, an entity like Disney is going to be looking at what would make the most money? It's Episode VII, VIII, and IX, so it has to be the story of the Big 3 after ROTJ. What happens to them? Billions of people have no clue about the EU, so this is their chance to tell that story...which might be completely new.

If they go the route of The Clone Wars, they'll borrow from existing canon to make a new one. Things will change, and the literature arm (assuming those entities, both Random House/Del Rey/LucasBooks and Dark Horse maintain contracts to produce the stories) will have to decide if they want to try and adapt to fit in with the new continuity or if they want to split apart.

When I read about this in the paper this morning, my mind blew up.

1. Man, April Fool's snuck up on me this year. Wait, this isn't April 1st... but it is October 31st! It's a Halloween joke! But wait... this isn't the Cantina, it's the newspaper.

2. Darn it, Disney. First Pixar, now this.

3. More Star Wars movies! Very Happy

4. More Star Wars movies... Rolling Eyes

5. I've never anticipated a Star Wars movie before (not including the TCW movie), because I became a fan right around the release of RotS. This could be interesting.

6. So will these be post-RotJ? Will this be the long delayed sequel trilogy?

7. Will any of the original actors be back. Mark Hamill, Peter Mayhew and Anthony Daniels would probably be willing. Harrison Ford wouldn't. I don't know if carrie Fischer would.

8. Is this the Expanded Universe's (and continuity's deathblow)? Will there be any attempts to cooperate with the EU?

9. Could they be set in a completely different period? The Old Republic? The Clone wars? Far in the future?

10. Will Mortis play a role in these movies, thus further cementing the confounded thing in Star Wars lore (G-level canon, no less)?

11. This is really happening.

12. This should not be happening.

Whatever, I'm optimistic. Like Taral and I have been saying, we got the Avengers after Disney bought Marvel.

It's Episode VII. If it was set in TOR, it would have to be Episode Negative Number. Just saying. Wink

I honestly don't understand what the problem is with the Mortis Trilogy. It changes nothing about the meaning of the Chosen One.

It's been reported that there will not be a book adaptation. Episode VII is an original story.

I expect pieces of EU will creep in just like it did in the PT.

True, true. Wink

I just figured that Episode VII was the working title and that it might not necessarily mean that it takes place post-RotJ.

@VileZero: My reaction to new Star Wars movies can be summed up in my earlier post:

I wrote:

4. More Star Wars movies...

Sure, part of me is excited about seeing Star Wars again on the big screen, but the other half of me has lost faith in the future of Star Wars and is ticked at having the entire EU (probably) tossed. I got really attached to some of those characters and stories and I think it's understandable for me to feel like I got screwed over. Don't get me wrong, when the movie comes out, I'll go see it. And I won't go into it with a long face, ready to nit-pick it to death, I'll try my best to forget about the politics, the EU etc. and enjoy it for what it is. However, I won't be counting the days, because as it stands right now, I'm burned out on Star Wars. We'll see where I am in 2015.

I can't view that video in my country. What does it say? Be precise here!

EDIT: Rolling Eyes .
