This should make anyone upset about the Clone Wars' discontinuity with established EU material happy.

DarthDiskon is an LFL whistle-blower?

It won't make us happy at all because what we want is for there not to be any discontinuity between TCW and the rest of the EU.

We want one Universe, one canon, one continuity. When you have two Universes, the movies and TCW, and the EU... you don't really have two Universes; you have One canon Universe, the movies and TCW, and you have throw away "What If?" Infinities stories... now the whole rest of the EU.

Think about it. If there is no longer one Universe that the EU has to conform to, then what incentive is there for maintaining continuity within the EU? That was the only reason to do so in the first place, which is evident in the fact that SW did not do that prior to the formalization of concept of one Universe.

IGN.com had some great articles on this subject (they should still be on the homepage) of it). They comment on the likeliness that Marvel will take over the Star Wars license when DHC's expires (which they do periodically), and how future Star Wars cartoons (e.g. Detours, if Squishies is still happening, etc.) will be on Disney XD and not Cartoon Network (and the future of TCW on Cartoon Network is in question).

The comics issue raises a question in my mind: did Dark Horse Comics shoot themselves in the foot by cancelling its lines of ongoing series and replacing them with self-contained arcs? Other than Star Wars Vol 3, there really isn't anything that Dark Horse is doing that, if they all got cancelled at once, couldn't be picked up in a different way by the new licensee.

EDIT: Also, I want to add one thing: There's no proof that Episode VII is within the lifetime of the movie characters. Carrie Fisher is old. Mark Hamill is old. Harrison Ford is old. These may be set in like 200 ABY. Zero continuity impact.

I really doubt they would do that. They're not going to care about continuity, as the profits by going to the general audiences is WAY bigger than just tryin to appease diehard EU fans. My FB is going ballistic with people excited about it, so it's already working. If they went that far into the future, they risk alienating the movie fans. As EU readers, we've gotten used to jumping around in the timeline, and introducing new characters. That's not what most people will be looking for. Even the PT had Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Anakin pre-Vader. Now I could be wrong of course, but it would genuinely shock me.

... The PT had Obi Wan, Yoda and Anakin because it was already established that they were part of the overall story.

Fisher, Ford or Hamill wouldnt do it. They have moved on from it. It nearly destroyed Fishers life the first time around so she would say no anyway.

I think this new trilogy will be set way in the future.

The little things matter to me. Call me sentimental, but they matter. It has been stated that the films will have the Fox opening cinematic replaced with the Disney castle. That just hurts my little heart. Sad

Ugh, that's like when the Bugs Bunny Warner Bros. logo was in the Clone Wars film...

I really, REALLY hope Fox helps in the distribution at least so we can see the epic logo.

I hadn't even thought of that. How true. Sad

Honestly, this doesn't upset me, not like it would have months ago (before my "Fandom Apocalypse").

Mortis killed continuity for me, not these yet-to-be-released movies. After reading Apocalypse, my fandom went on life support, knowing that Mortis was here to stay and that Lucas (much less, Disney) cares nothing for continuity... even in his own films. After that I re-evaluated what exactly I was a fan of in the Star Wars universe and I came up with one thing: the original trilogy. No prequels, no TCW, even no EU. The original trilogy is what I fell in love with and that is where my fandom resides. No one can take those movies away from me (I have the original versions on VHS), so you know what Lucas and Disney? Let 'er rip. Do whatever you want. I don't care, because my "personal canon" now merely consists of three fine films. I've tossed everything else.

Same here, except I like to throw RotS in there. I couldn't care less about the first two prequels (I haven't even watched AotC since 2008, and probably won't again until its 3D release).

After reading six pages of people in distress or being hopeful, I came to a realization that is wonderful.

MARA JADE COULD LIVE AGAIN!

If they use Mara Jade in the new movies, I could care less what continuity they go with, as long as they keep her alive and cool. Cool

They won't. Lucas doesn't like the idea of Luke being married.

One of my biggest fears about the new movies: Mara Jade doesn't exist at all! And they replace Luke's love interest with a "damsel in distress" Disney @&*%!. Evil or Very Mad

Joss Whedon posted this on facebook.

Imagine how great a new Star Wars trilogy could be with the Yuuzhan Vong invasion as the plot focus.
