Well maybe not scared as such but I am worried. Theres no doubt that Disney are a tremendous company with the resources to make SW great but I am concerned that it wont feel like SW. I know Lucas messed things up on various levels with the prequels and his seemingly disregard for the EU. But I think the new SW movies could bury the franchise once and for all and with talk of two separate universes SW is now becoming a mulitverse.

That concerns me. I hope Im wrong and I know Lucas appears to be saying all the right things about this takeover but for some reason alarm bells are ringing.

Its like the force is telling me something.....

Did Avengers feel like Marvel? Or did it feel "different"? Did any of the Marvel comics feel "different" post-Disney acquisition? I say thee nay!

Let's give this a chance. Breathe, Worry not.

While there is a small fear of them totally redoing or throwing away the stories of Thrawn and Mara, I'm still pretty positive about them doing new movies. Whichever direction they go, it will probably be pretty entertaining and hopefully I'll enjoy it.

My worry is for what will happen to the books and comics. What direction will they go and will they continue?

^ This. I'm more concerned about the future for the future of the books and comics. Here's a statement put out by Dark Horse yesterday.

"Dark Horse and LucasFilm have a strong partnership which spans over 20 years, and has produced multiple characters and story lines which are now part of the Star Wars lore. Star Wars will be with us for the near future. Obviously, this deal changes the landscape, so we'll all have to see what it means for the future." -Mike Richardson, President of Dark Horse Comics, Inc.

So either they'll shoehorn it in and retcon (which would destroy pretty much everything) or they'll just reboot the universe. Neither is a good option, though if pressed I'd be happy with the latter. At least then I have my universe, they can have theirs, and we never have to interact again.

I don't even know what I'm going to do with the EU or if I'm going to allow any of it into my personal canon of three movies. It's hard to think of any book/series that I can't do without. I think it's mostly the characters themselves that I loved. Mara Jade, the Solo kids, Ben Skywalker, Jaden Korr, Marr, Khedryn, Thrawn, Seha Dorvald...

Here's an idea. If I was making Episode VII, I would jump to adult Ben at about the same age as Luke was in ANH.

Think about.

You're very depressing, Reep. Me, I'm in it for the stories. It'll be interesting to see how they handle it (separate canon, keep it all together somehow), but as long as they keep making books and comics, I'll be fine. I'm actually really excited to hear who they might get to direct the new films. I'm not sure if I'd rather have a different director for each or the same for all three.

This is basically the reason that I'm pretty much out at this point. They've already said it will be an original story and honestly I don't think they'll be very respectful of the EU. I'm in it for the stories but last time we got SW movies that crapped all over things I loved we got Hayden Christiansen, I'd hate to see a repeat of that. Overall I think I may be out. I'll read the Sword of the Jedi books, the new one with Luke Hand and Leia on the cover, and of course Scoundrels but hopefully that's enough to put a cap on my story. An end, a tie-in to the Legacy comics, and a finale would be enough for me. Then I don't have to deal with the new movies. If I hear they're good I may watch them, but they won't be SW to me. I'm already too invested in what we have to watch someone dance around it and overwright it. I've washed my hands of TCW, I'll wash my hands of this most likely.

I was thinking more along the lines of focusing on Luke, Han, and Leia's grandchildren - then Hamill, Fisher, and Ford wouldn't have to be brought back (as they could have reasonably died), but it could still fit in well within current continuity.

I'm sorry, Skulz. The thing is I've given up on new Star Wars and my fandom is pretty much over. I've just had enough. So why am I still here? Because I love it here. What can I say, I now know where "haters" come from.

Pretty much. We get tired of retcons, Jar Jar Binks, and now more canonical destruction and we just get so tired of it.

In an effort to keep all the discussions about the recent sale of Lucasfilm under one (two) threads please continue this discussion in the Disney has bought Lucasfilm for $4bn thread.

Use that thread to discuss your hopes, fears, and joys.

And Skuldren made the Good Things About the Disney Acquisition thread for all the positive thoughts.

In a time where everything is up in the air, it is human to feel the gauntlet of emotions on this one.

And please to all; check around in the forum for threads that your ponder/question/discussion may have already been asked in before starting a new thread. Wink

No need for a lot of threads swarming on the same topic.

May the Force be with you.
