Im scared for SW future

darthrevan1 Knight Joined: 18 Nov 2011 Posts: 442 Well maybe not scared as such but I am worried. Theres no doubt that Disney are a tremendous company with the resources to make SW great but I am concerned that it wont feel like SW. I know Lucas messed things up on various levels with the prequels and his seemingly disregard for the EU. But I think the new SW movies could bury the franchise once and for all and with talk of two separate universes SW is now becoming a mulitverse. That concerns me. I hope Im wrong and I know Lucas appears to be saying all the right things about this takeover but for some reason alarm bells are ringing. Darth Skuldren Moderator Joined: 04 Feb 2008 Posts: 5756 Location: Missouri While there is a small fear of them totally redoing or throwing away the stories of Thrawn and Mara, I'm still pretty positive about them doing new movies. Whichever direction they go, it will probably be pretty entertaining and hopefully I'll enjoy it. My worry is for what will happen to the books and comics. What direction will they go and will they continue? _________________

"Dark Horse and LucasFilm have a strong partnership which spans over 20 years, and has produced multiple characters and story lines which are now part of the Star Wars lore. Star Wars will be with us for the near future. Obviously, this deal changes the landscape, so we'll all have to see what it means for the future." -Mike Richardson, President of Dark Horse Comics, Inc. _________________ Roqoo Depot co-founder.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle it (separate canon, keep it all together somehow), but as long as they keep making books and comics, I'll be fine. I'm actually really excited to hear who they might get to direct the new films. I'm not sure if I'd rather have a different director for each or the same for all three. _________________

This is basically the reason that I'm pretty much out at this point. They've already said it will be an original story and honestly I don't think they'll be very respectful of the EU. I'm in it for the stories but last time we got SW movies that crapped all over things I loved we got Hayden Christiansen, I'd hate to see a repeat of that. Overall I think I may be out. I'll read the Sword of the Jedi books, the new one with Luke Hand and Leia on the cover, and of course Scoundrels but hopefully that's enough to put a cap on my story. An end, a tie-in to the Legacy comics, and a finale would be enough for me. Then I don't have to deal with the new movies. If I hear they're good I may watch them, but they won't be SW to me. I'm already too invested in what we have to watch someone dance around it and overwright it.
