Del Rey has mentioned some little teases about a new Star Wars book.

“Lucasfilm just approved the cover art for a soon-to-be announced STAR WARS novel.” -via Twitter

“It’s a new book we haven’t spoken of publicly yet. All I can say. Wish I could tell you more. We’re excited about it.” -via Jedi News

“…we’re going to reveal a book you had no idea existed.” -via TheForce.Net

“This is a new book we haven’t spoken of publicly yet and will most likely be announcing in the coming weeks. I mention this because I encourage you to follow us on Twitter as well at @DelReyStarWars.” -via Facebook

Let the speculation begin!

I was hoping this would be the Paul S. Kemp duology, but since we've already heard of that - X-Wing novel by Michael Stackpole?

Don't count on it being anything by Mike Stackpole. Until Shelly Shapiro leaves Del Rey, he won't be writing anything for them.

Any particular reason why?

Personally, I'm hoping for a Mara and Mirax buddy book set in the New Republic era.

Though I'm honest enough with myself to know it likely won't happen.

Stackpole's been pretty open about the fact that he won't be asked to write for Star Wars as long as Shelly's the head editor for it at Del Rey. I have no idea what the issue is.

I have so many thoughts on what I'd love for the new book to be, but most of them have been explicitly disproven.

I want something that starts the build towards Episode VII (a novel equivalent to Star Trek: Countdown). But they've said it isn't related to Ep7

I want Imperial Commando 2 or the Boba Fett novel that was cancelled, but those are things we've heard about before, so it's probably not either of those.

I'd like maybe some more TCW tie-in novels. The movie novelization and the Clone Wars Gambit duology were good (No Prisoners was okay; I didn't care at all for Wild Space).

So yea. That's my hope. TCW tie-in. Maybe something to help set up Episode III from the TV series.

I hope it's the Skywalker family novel by Timothy Zahn or a Ben Skywalker solo novel set after Fate of the Jedi by Tim Zahn where he teams up with a clone of Thrawn in the Unknown Regions.

I'm pretty sure Zahn has gone on record to say that he's not a fan of the NJO and beyond. I doubt we'd get any such books, in that time period.

He used that ^^ username back on TOS forums and I can't tell you how many times I've seen that exact post (minus the smilies) over the past 5 years.

Its. Not. Gonna. Happen.

Please let this end.
