First off, I liked the mid-season finale. The Governor had a good end and I like how his last three episodes played out. They made poor use of their tank, but the Governor had a good gamble going on. I also like the deaths. Hershel went out good, and the Governor also had a good death. Not sure if Rick's baby is really dead or not, so I'm still waiting to see how that turns out.
Also on the pro side, I like the two kids showing up with pistols and gunning that one person down. Yes, with the current state of affairs, that's probably a pretty troubling thing. But from a combat perspective, that's a great move. Think about that person seeing those two little girls with pistols. You know they couldn't shoot. That person was toast.
Now for the negatives. Mostly Daryl. He hid behind a magic file cabinet which was blessed by some set wizard to block bullets. Then he picked up a rare breed of bullet proof zombie as an impromptu shield. There may have been a couple other major gaffs in the battle, but those are the two I remember.
However, upon reflecting on the episode, I realized the biggest issue of all was Rick. They planned on leaving the prison on the bus, right? So why not let the Governor and his people have the prison? No one would have died. Instead Rick decides to fight, the lose the prison, and lots of people die. Seems like Rick made the wrong call.
