Also, can someone explain to me why on earth Ant-Man is happening?

There are worse characters that could get a movie. Ant Man has the potential to be hilarious and he's a major Marvel character. They've hit all the big ones that they have the rights to, gotta delve into slightly smaller ones. They got the rights to Ghost Rider and Daredevil back so maybe we'll see more of those as well.

On the Iron Man 3 themes...

@Caedus:

I'm just not understanding why they chose Ant-Man out of all possible heroes they could make a stand alone film about. I'll reserve judgment until I see it, but I'm wary about it right now. Also, where's my Deadpool movie I was promised like 5 years ago, Marvel?

Ant-Man is more prudent at the moment than say Luke Cage or Iron Fist. This Phase 2 thing is going to be really dark, I get why they might want a quirky weird one after all that. Other than Guardians of the Galaxy these new ones seem based off of fear and intensity.

Yeah, although Ant-Man doesn't thrill me, it would probably be a nice change of pace from what we currently have. I hope the rumors are true and Nathan Fillion comes aboard that project.

I just hope Phase 2 doesn't suck. IM3 wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either, and Thor 2 doesn't look very good. I'm really hoping they can pick it up with Capt. America 2. The jury's still out for Guardians of the Galaxy though...

I do understand that Marvel is running out of top tier characters, but Ant Man?! Really? Give me Deadpool please, heck I'd take an entire colossus movie!

Right now Marvel doesn't own the movie rights to either of those characters.

Ant Man will be fine. Its got a good director, its a funny and different kind of character, and its just weird enough to change things up and take the series in a new direction which will be good after two huge phases.

Calm down folks, Ant Man will be fine.

ANT-MAN WILL BE THE BEST OF ALL THE MOVIES!

Sorry for yelling, but ANT-MAN!

I really hope they make it mostly about Hank Pym, though I read that, back when Edgar Wright first started thinking about it, he wanted it with two distinct parts, with Hank Pym in the 1960s, a la Tales to Astonish (I loved those Ant-Man stories!) and then jump to the modern day with Scott Lang.

Ant-Man and Wasp are some of my favourite Marvel heroes, and Edgar Wright is a brilliant movie-maker. It's win-win.

I'm also really looking forward to the Guardians of the Galaxy one. After I heard about it, I started buying up all the GOTG books, and now I'm a huge fans of the Cosmic Marvel stories (superheroes + sci-fi space opera = win).

If they made a Deadpool movie would they have to use the Ryan Reynolds character from X-Men Origins: Wolverine? Or is that not canon anymore?

Its not canon, but that's the only thing Ryan Reynolds would be good for ever.
