Congrats, Salaris!

I have two glorious days off of work! I'll likely do my bit for the zombie RPG tomorrow, since I'll have time.

I just spent a week in Paris!

It was for work, so I didn't get to do too much touristy stuff though. I had the Sunday I landed to explore (I walked around for a few hours), and on the Friday night after my conference was done I went up to the top of the Eiffel Tower, which was pretty cool.

Ate some absolutely delicious food, especially one evening where I and my colleague (who I worked with for a few years before joining my department) went to this fancy place near the Hotel Des Invalides. Delicious.

The only problem was that some of my coworkers take the whole France thing too seriously. We were there to work, but they insisted on getting fancy food and sharing entire bottles of wine every single night, and then they'd make fun of me for wanting fast food take-out every now and then because I'm exhausted from all the work! So I made the point to not hang out with them every night; I don't need their crap. Let them get drunk and spend too much money on food and be up late; some nights, you just want a Royale With Cheese and a coke and to go to bed early.

And yes, they call it a Royale With Cheese in France Smile They also have these really cool chicken-on-a-baguette sandwiches. Delicious.

Royale with Cheese! Classic, sounds like a good time! I would have been right there with you, sober at the Mc'D's line, checking out the sights

Happy belated birthday, mon ami!

I just got back from a great vacation. The missus and I spent a few days with my in-laws, then a few days at a nice fancy hotel in downtown Toronto (during that time, we celebrated our third wedding anniversary), and then a couple of days with my family at their seasonal campsite. We:
-Saw all three of my wife's grandparents, as well as my one living grandmother;
-Saw my sister and her three kids (4-year-old twins and a 4-month-old baby);
-Went shopping with my sisters-in-law;
-Saw "The Wolverine";
-Had numerous family dinners with my in-laws;
-Went up the CN Tower (formerly the Largest Free-Standing Structure, until the Burj was finished, it has cool viewing areas and a transparent floor);
-Went to a restaurant that specializes in Bacon Sandwiches (seriously!);
-Did an "Urban Quest" (like a scavenger hunt, which took us through an old market, Chinatown, the Walk of Fame, etc.);
-Did a boat cruise of Lake Ontario, seeing the cityscape at night;
-Went to the Royal Ontario Museum;
-Toured Queen's Park (the Ontario provincial legislature; my wife and I have so far toured the parliaments of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, Ontario, and the federal one);
-Had a nice camp fire, where we cooked Pie Irons;
-etc.

Overall, an absolutely wonderful vacation. If anyone ever gets the chance to see Toronto, I recommend it wholeheartedly.
