Quote:
Ready for some awesome news, Star Wars fans? Ready for some awesome news, animation fans? Oh, and ready for some awesome news, fans of Star Wars and animation? While the exact plot and characters are still top secret, we now know the title and the first details about the upcoming new Star Wars animated series, which has officially begun production.

Fall 2014 will see the debut of Star Wars Rebels, from Dave Filoni and Greg Weisman. The two animation powerhouses will be joined by Simon Kinberg, with all three serving as executive producers on the series and Kinberg writing the premiere episode.

For Filoni, this will mark his continuing career with Star Wars, coming off his work guiding the excellent Star Wars: The Clone Wars as that show's supervising director.

...

Star Wars Rebels, which will air on Disney XD, is described as an “action-filled series”, set between the events of Episode III and IV. There was a lot of speculation about when the new Star Wars animated series would take place, with many assuming the most likely era was post-Episode VI, to lead into the new trilogy. Instead, as the title notes, Rebels occurs “in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.” There is about 20 years of time in-between Episode III and IV in the Star Wars timeline, so there are still plenty of questions about whether this will take place closer to Revenge of the Sith or A New Hope, or perhaps right in the middle...

This might partially show why they ended Clone Wars or at least ease the pain for some. My sole hope for this show, no Jedi.

Interesting. I thought they might do an OT era animated show to compliment TCW someday. Weren't they going to make a post-RotJ animated series though or was that just a rumour?

Ah, the wonders of having cast away the EU. Now I can actually look forward to this without worrying about it rear-ending continuity.

I bet they are gonna have a hard time following that whole "Rebels have only scored one major victory against the Empire"-thing, though. Season finales tend to want to go dramatic. And I just can't envision this as some close, personal show where individual dramas can do the trick.

Quite optimistic about this. The visuals and score, writing and acting in TCW was getting better by the series, and I have no doubt that that would translate over to this series, too, especially with Filoni at the controls (who is also a big fan of the EU, by the way). Add to that the era it's set in, and I'm very excited about this.

And I definitely want to see Ahsoka.

Being a geek is not a prerequisite. The only prerequisite is that I love something about Star Wars. I am a Star Wars fan.

I'm quite excited about this. I just hope they explain what happens to Ahsoka.

I don't expect it to explain what happened to Ahsoka, that last episode of TCW sort of was the reason why she wasn't in episode 3. It was kind of self-explanatory. But I expect Vader to be involved somewhat, but not completely. But I'm excited about it. My friends never liked the Clone Wars series, but I thought it was good. The more I think about it, the more excited I am about it.

The rise of Mon Mothma? The beginnings of Wedge?
