I completely agree. The Mother's death, while disappointing, wasn't a dealbreaker. Ted returning to Robin was. If that was their endgame, they NEVER should have devoted over two seasons to her relationship to Barney. Ted threw himself at Robin so many times over the course of the show, the idea of them ending up together was reprehensible to me by season 4. Also, what on earth was the point of Ted learning to let her go several episodes before the finale?
I also wanted to point out that "future Robin"'s assertion that she should have been with Ted had NO foundation. The show proved time and time again that she never loved him in that way. She clearly didn't even in the finale, she came across as just whining about being alone because her marriage failed....a failure that was completely on her.
I agree about Barney, what a complete waste. Years of development, gone in five minutes. And the kid? Lazy writing at its finest.
