Finished Doctor Sleep. It was a good book, and I had a lot of fun reading it, but I think it got a little weak with the ending.

First off, I really enjoyed the whole journey that built up to the end. All the way to Crow's attack on Abra, the story was great. All the characters had depth and I enjoyed reading them.
However, once Crow was dead, Rose the Hat become a far less threatening villain. She lost followers, struggled to keep things together, couldn't maintain leadership, couldn't even maintain control of herself to deal with Abra and Dan. She started out as a very strong villain and ended as a very weak villain. That hurt the story for me. I would have preferred a few more surprises from her and a bit more competence. She lost her lover. Her True Knot fell apart. And after a couple hundred years of dominance, she comes up against someone who is more powerful than her, and the best she can come up with is a person with a sickle in a shed?
Still, I liked seeing Dan and Abra have the upper hand and killing off all those evil gypsy people without losing any of the good guys. King had me worried when Dan saw those death flies. And the ending was actually pretty good. But the story could have been a lot better if Rose wasn't so weak and outplayed at the end.
"I believe toys resonate with us as humans, we can hold them, it's tactile, real! They are totems for our extended beliefs and imaginations. A fetish for ideas that hold as much interest and passion as old religious relics for some. We display them in our homes. They show who we are. They are signals for similar thinking people. A way we connect with each other...and I guess thats why I do toys. That connection." -Ashley Wood
