STAR WARS: A NEW DAWN by John Jackson Miller

Our very first official canon novel set solidly in the legendary “Dark Times” between Episodes III and IV, A NEW DAWN will introduce readers to two main characters from the upcoming Star Wars: Rebels animated series—Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla—and will feature jacket art by Doug Wheatley, as well as a foreword by Dave Filoni, one of the executive producers of The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. It goes on sale September 2, 2014.

John also shared some info about the book on his blog which you can check out here. He links to another post where he talks about a trip he made with Timothy Zahn. The fact that Zahn was in on the trip speaks well to me, because that means Zahn is going to get in on this new canon.

Well I have been completely not interested in this Rebels show but if anyone could get me on board I'd say JJM could.

I was thinking of reading this one just because I'm curious how the first book in the new canon will be handled.

I have been a bit weary on the new show, just because it seems very childish....... Great catch by the top brass to make an adult bridge into it. JJM is golden in my book, this is the one shinning light of how the new "conglomerated" EU might mean more EU than ever before

My thoughts as well. I'm not really all that interested in Star Wars Rebels but I like John's books a lot. This could get me into the series and help bridge the pain of trying to adjust to this new show that is not TCW.

I think I am most excited for this book, partly because it comes out first and I just want to get this part started, and partly because I am rather excited for Rebels. It does look kiddie, but TCW looked the same (and was the same) at the start. The show will need time to grow, perhaps less time than TCW needed with so many of the same people around.

Also I want to know how Hera is related to Cham.

I'm getting excited for the new show as well as the books, so I'll be getting this book when it comes out.

While it does look more "kiddie" for the animation, the "feel" is definately more OT, so I'm looking forward to the show. I'm also curious to see what EU elements Filoni and the Story Group bring into the show.

I heard an interview with Vanessa Marshall (Hera Syndulla) on The ForceCast (Episode 299) and have to say that she is awesome and loves SW. It got me more excited for the show.

JJM is one of my favorite SW authors, so I'm excited for the book.

Since we don't have Disney XD at my house, I'm hoping that they'll show the episodes online after the air date. If not, I'm going to be a bit upset.

I'll be watching Rebels so I'll check this out as well.

I'll be requesting it from my local library though...not buying it.

I finished this last night. It's a really good book that still has the feel of the old EU. It's a good introduction to two of the Rebels characters and certainly makes me excited to see the show.

I wanted to share a quote from John Jackson Miller's acknowledgements that will hopefully help some of those still stung by the end of the EU...

Quote:
Finally, I owe a debt to all the writers who've worked in the Star Wars universe to date - and to the millions of readers who've supported their works. The stories we love may not always fit neatly into a single timeline, but they will always still matter.

I look forward to seeing more of this new canon...just one month till Rebels, two more till Tarkin!
