Star Wars
Ongoing series
Writer: Jason Aaron
Artist: John Cassaday
Starting January 2015

Jason Aaron: “It’s very much a team book and we’ve got all the main players here. Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, the droids, and Darth Vader all get big moments in this first arc, and that’s our core cast going forward. I do want to be able to use Obi-Wan Kenobi. I’ve always liked the old Ben Kenobi version of Obi-Wan, so we will see him in some capacity.

Story wise, I think our book is driven in some big way by Luke and by the pretty interesting spot we find him in at this period in the timeline. You look at the gap between Episodes IV and V and there’s quite a bit that happens off screen that we get to explore.”

These announcements (including the other two Marvel Star Wars comics) sound great!

I love Jason Aaron, Mark Waid, and Kieron Gillen. Aaron did Thor: God of Thunder and is bringing the new female Thor to life. Waid is famous for his work on Daredevil, but also recently did a great run on Indestructible Hulk. Gillen's run on Journey into Mystery was epic, and I'm about to read some of his Iron Man.

I feel like the 3 announcements that were made, go all in the same direction...classic Star Wars. I know they are starting, but still, I find it sad that the past does not count a lot.
They could indeed have one series of classic SW but then also something on EU, create something new, or explore something as a continuation from some novels.

Of course knowing Marvel they will do it as well, on top of the rest. Meaning releasing 4 or 5 different series a month.

Of all the new announcements this intereasts me in the least.

I agree with mephizt on this one. It looks too much like classic Star Wars.

The setting between Ep. IV and V killed this for me. If it's going to be about Luke and friends trying to find a new rebel base, I'm definitely not going to buy this.

I admit, I don't know much about Marvel comics and how their authors hanndle things (the old SW comics being an exception), but for now I remain a sceptic.

Really? So they're going this direction already? Should have expected it, I suppose. Unless it turns out to be some fakery. Regardless, makes me cranky.

Ridiculousness

Yea that's some garbage sauce right there. Here I was angry (just read the new SW Rpg Mobil game synopsis) and was thinking "wow very lame give us our first glance at new timeline and it comes from a Mobil game?!?!? WTF??" And now I read THIS? Not happy with our new Supreme Overlord's vision right now....

Well that's just stupid. I'm thinking that this is a "Boba Fett is Dead" type deal (spoiler: he wasn't), but I will be angered if this is what it seems. Mad

I'm not sure what to think of it.

Ah, that's what I was referring to a few posts above. And I'm still cranky about it. Confused

Was this the last page of the comic?

If so I stand by the idea that this is a fake out. All shall be made clear in the next issue.

But if I am wrong there's another reason why I don't like the idea of Han being married before he met Leia other than the obvious fact that he's a cheating murglak. Before ANH Han Solo is... solo. He flies around the galaxy smuggling spice, his ship is his home, and he has no responsibilities except to himself (Chewbacca is the one exception). His experiences in the OT break him out of his self-centred world and he begins to form meaningful relationships possibly for the first time.

Him being married kind of changes that. I guess you could argue that Han and his wife are probably estranged and he spends no time with her, thus making him solo anyway. There is a difference though and I don't like it as much.

The biggest reason I dislike it though is that it would wreck the innocent idealism of the OT. Han has always been the roguish one, fine, but some things just don't belong in Star Wars - at least not where the Big 3 is concerned.

I agree. I mean they can't really do that, I mean they wouldn't really do that, right...?! It would be a terrible blow to a core character's....... **** the whole character! I'm not even going to name a feature, that changes to many things..
