You hear her name all the time on EUC, now we talk to the women, the myth, the editor: Sue Rostoni of Lucas Licensing. We will be talking to Ms Rostoni about upcoming Star Wars novels and other little details about being the editor of the books we love.

Please feel free to send in your questions to mailbag@eucantina.net (with the subject line “Questions for Sue”) or placing them in this thread by Sunday, November 16 at 12:00 PM EST.

We’d like to thank everyone who sent in questions for James, and we look forward to our next interview.

Fairly specific question:

1. I can't remember if this is referred to, but what happened to Mara's lightsaber? Will it be given to Ben, seeing as it's come down the line from Anakin Skywalker? Personally, I would like to see it continue to pass through the Skywalker family.

Will William C. Dietz's unreleased novel Escape from Dagu ever be published?

When can we expect our first glimpse of the Blood Oath cover?

Are there plans for other novels with Luke,Han and Leia besides Fate of the Jedi? Or Won't there be any until 2011 when FOTJ ends?

Also will Fate of the Jedi be the last we'll see of the big three chronologically or will they be in another arc after FOTJ and will there be a final Luke/Han/Leia adventure at the end of this new contract?

Finally are there plans to bring Timothy Zahn back to write a new SW novel?

Cool Very Happy

Are there still plans to write a novel specific to one of the ancient Sith lords?

Crazy quesiton, but:

2. If one thought they were a magnificent writer (which I do not, mind you, I'm just curious) and were sure they had an excellent Star Wars story written out, is there any way for it to be presented to you people for consideration? Or even the plot, if not the whole book? Just wondering.

Kinda in relation to Mara's question: How are Star Wars authors selected? Do they come forth for consideration, or do you approach authors and ask them?

The last two questions I can answer for you: No-- legality prevents them from reading anything submitted; good, bad, or otherwise. As for the DJ's question, authors are always almost approached by a publisher, not vice versa. You can talk to to editors and such, however.

I do plan on asking both questions to Sue as she give a more detailed answer, I'm sure.

1. How far in advance do you have to plan out the plotlines of Star Wars novels? Do you know now roughly what's going to happen over the next few years?

2. Has George Lucas ever had any involvement in the EU - even simply saying what you can and can't do? Or has absolutely everything been left up to your team?

3. Most of the novels featuring the Solo-Skywalker kids have been part of fairly large scale ensemble series (with the exception of the Young & Junior Jedi Knights series, which were for younger readers). Is there any chance of any more character-focused, stand-alone novels involving any of them being published in the future? Or for any of the other "younger generation" characters?

1. When the novels catch up with the Legacy comics, will there be stories placed after Legacy?

It's probably too late to add another question - for all I know you may have had the interview by now - but just in case it's not:

Why was the decision made to only have 3 of the 9 LOTF books come out in hardcover?

Yep, questions have been sent and they will be answered after Sue returns from her vacation. This was a HUGE interview, something like 22 questions.

Probably a little after Thanksgiving; it will be the second November interview, so you can expect it in November... Very Happy

Thanks!
