Nah. Sue acted like that wasn't even a consideration. She seemed to indicate that no major character would die, which I found slightly disappointing simply because it limits the shock factor.

I just looked closer at this cover, and there is something up with the one side of Luke's face. That's not just a bad artistic attempt at shadow. That is a purposeful different type of eye/flesh/skin. It reminds me of when Luke saw his face in the Vader mask during ESB. Something strange is going on with Luke.

Totally a Terminator effect! And check out how his face is perfectly split down the middle like in RotJ. Great catch, Ben!

My prediction might come true! I don't remember where I posted it on the boards, but I said Abeloth was going to have to possess Luke before all was said and done. And that he would then pull a TUF Jacen to overcome and destroy her. Smile

The prospect of Luke being absorbed or going dark - in a DENNING book - fills me with dread.

But I will wait with bated breath.

Are you saying Luke will become the "dark man" in the end?!?! And Jacen's fall was for nothing??? That can be truly intersting... No one can run away from his destiny.

That could be interesting, and potentially an extremely good plot if well written. Judging by the cover, I'd say the Sith and Abeloth will lay seige to Coruscant, lots of people will die, Vestera will a) sacrifice herself, b) join the light side and live happily ever after or c) be killed by Luke with Ben watching because she's decided to side with the Sith; and the ending will just be a state of disarray and plotholes.

I rather like the cover. Quite...dramatic.

Well, I am a bit disappointed it's of Luke again, but I suppose, since this book series does feature him quite prominently, it can be forgiven - or at least understood. But I kind of like the face, as OMB pointed out, and the Coruscant in flames back drop.

So no one's noticed that Luke was on the FIRST, MIDDLE, and LAST covers? I think that was done intentionally. In the first cover he's struggling against something, in the middle he's standing with the Sith, and in the third it appears he's become what he fought. The covers are painting a nice story arc for Luke, I like it.

I would read anything into that image just yet because it's too soon to tell what it means. When I saw it -- and I'm still not sure what "it" is -- I thought it was some kind of reflection. Imo, it could be referring to a way that Luke destroys Abeloth.

As for Luke becoming the Dark Man; If you remember back to Abyss, Jacen took care of that already.

In Vortex, Abeloth's stated desire was to undo what Jacen did.

But that doesn't mean she's actually capable of doing that. There are certain things Luke has said in the series that makes me think he knows how to prevent her. Denning's writing the last book, and he seems to like pulling out some surprise Luke trick at the end of a series.

One of the complaints I've read from a lot of Luke fans is that Denning writes him too dark. One would think that Luke's involvement in Legacy would thankfully preclude Denning from retreading that story, but who knows.
