The one guy that was part of the Imperial conspiracy whose name I've completely forgotten? I think he was in charge of the starfighter corps or space marines or something?

Stavin Thaal. I'm not crazy about him being the guy only because he just got created and there's no reader investment in him. It'd be a lot better for the character to be someone we know and either love or love to hate.

If it's someone we love, though...that'll just feel like another death. In essence.

If it's someone we love to hate...bring it on. Cool

In today's announcement on the Star Wars Book Facebook page, there was a tidbit about Mercy Kill in the comment section:

Quote:
MERCY KILL takes place in the timeframe of Fate of the Jedi. (FP)

I think it will depend on how satisfied I am with Apocalypse if I read this or not. I haven't read the original series yet so most of the nostalgia would be lost on me (like going to see Toy Story 3 without having seen the first two). If Apocalypse leaves plot threads unended, I'll probably read it.

Random House updated their Mercy Kill product page. I believe these parts are new:

Quote:
The intrepid spies, pilots, and sharpshooters of Wraith Squadron are back in an all-new Star Wars adventure, which transpires just after the events of the Fate of the Jedi series!

Quote:
A powerful general in the Galactic Alliance Army, once renowned for his valor, is suspected of participating in the infamous Lecersen Conspiracy, which nearly toppled the Alliance back into the merciless hands of the Empire.

Are they giving away Apocalypse? Sounds like they just gave away Apocalypse. Confused

@Mara: they've certainly posted a lot of it online already. Randomhouse had the first page from the first 30 chapters online, Amazon had tons of pages posted in their preview section, including big chunks of the excerpts for Scourge and Mercy Kill. Suvudu also has the first 50 pages posted.

But back on topic, I've read the excerpt for Mercy Kill and it was interesting. Yes, interesting, not OH MY GOD I HAVE TO HAVE THIS! The prose felt a little weird is all...but the contest of the excerpt was cool. It was a flashback with all the old Wraiths. I'm guessing it'll jump forward to post-FOTJ for most of the book. Either way, I like the fact there will be a flashback scene. It'll be interesting if they do more than one.

New cover vs old cover, discuss!

Honestly, I like the old one better. Matches the rest of the series more, and I like the dogfight in the background.

I actually like the old one better. Less cluttered.

I definitely like the old one better, but the new one seems to be in line with Scourge and Scoundrels - new pattern emerging?

I really like both, but the old one fits the rest of the series so much better. If I had to vote, I'd vote for that one.

Same here. I wonder why they included the rebel crest? Promotional purposes?
