IR2's Review:
Having spent a year living in the worshyr tree top village of Rwookrrorro, I find it interesting to read Chewie's outlook on his life back home on Kashyyyk. The only issue I had with Wookiee if the Year- The life and Times of a Walking Carpet, was with the Audio book. The publisher hired a Xaczik dialect translator, which as we all well know changes many phrases when translating from Shyriiwook and Thykarann. Thus the audio book had made many errors in translation.
The hardcover on the other hand did not suffer this issue, and is a must read. Not only does the mighty Chewbacca retell many famous and infamous battles key to the Rebellions rise, he dishes on many of the Republics political leaders, as well as everyone's favorite head of the Jedi Order, and the New Republic's "First" First-Husband, in a tell all expose'.
Before my year at Rwookrrorro, I always thought Chewie was an inarticulate genius, the mime mechanic with a heart of gold. After my year in the Worshyr trees with the noble Wookiees I have learned that many thought Chewie a braggart, one who had a reputation of never shutting up. Many of Chewies' closest friends have been quoted saying that the best thing to have happened to Chewie was his lifedebt to Solo. That Han's sensitive hearing and quick temper, coupled with the power he held over Chewie with the lifedebt, forced Chewie to bite his tongue more often then naught. Chewie then became Han's silent partner, and when ever he spoke up it was either straight to the point, or a complete wisecrack. It's true, if you go back over the Holonet Records Database, most images captured of the Honorable Wookiee are him cracking jokes. The most famous was after the Battle of Yavin (35:3) (0 BBY) When Luke Skywalker and Han Solo are receiving their Medals for their part in the Death Stars destruction and turn to the crowd- just then it dawns on Chewie that his Medallion isn't there. He'd been forgotten by Princess Leia (Great litany from Chewie about this on page 245.) As the crowd erupts in applause you can still hear Chewie in the historical footage cursing Leia out, going on about "his forcing Han to turn the Falcon around, his making Han take Luke and Ben thus saving Leia." He goes on and on, check out the historical footage yourself, or read chapter 22 of Wookiee of the Year- The life and Times of a Walking Carpet to get his own take on the situation. Both are priceless! As is this book. -Mark Hurliman EUCast Host, Wookiee Sociologist _________________
