I associate songs by Akon with that time I had my cell phone and digital camera stolen and almost got assaulted.
My idiot roommate invited a friend over. He brought his friends. They asked to use my computer (I was very trusting back then). They took my phone, my camera, and my good rum. When I went to confront them about it, the one guy almost beat the crap out of me (his buddies calmed him down). I got the phone back right away, and got the camera back later (they tried to con me out of money for it, but I got reimbursed).
When they were on my computer, they downloaded Akon songs. So there's the association.
I never liked Akon, so the point his moot, but I find myself changing the station when he plays.
I'm over the incident. It started a chain of events that led me to date my wife. Because of the incident, I moved out of that house and decided to live alone. Better neighbourhood, no terrible roommates, total independence, etc. And it turns out that the girl who I would end up marrying lived only a 20 minute walk from my new place, so it was easy for us to visit each other when we dated (and I never would have had her go to the other place; it was sketchy, and my one roommate was a terrible person). So all's well that ends well I suppose. _________________ It was the year of fire… the year of destruction… the year we took back what was ours.
It was the year of rebirth… the year of great sadness… the year of pain… and the year of joy.
It was a new age. It was the end of history. It was the year everything changed.
The year is 2261.
The place: Babylon 5.
