Did anyone here watch the solar eclipse yesterday? We had 97% totality about 2:40 PM. That was as dark as it got here in our area of western North Carolina

I got up, couldn't see anything, and then went back to bed. heh.

I think the time that they said it was supposed to happen was wrong.

Was it cool? I was surprised that people were making such a big deal about it. It happens every six months. Yeah, I know it's usually in a place where no one can see it. They said that it's been 26 years since it we've had this prominent of a view in the US. That can't be right, I definitely remember seeing a solar eclipse at least once, and it was not 26 years ago. I'm not that old!

...I mean, I am that old, but I'm not several times that.

I viewed it through a pinhole projector because I couldn't get eclipse glasses in time. Still a really cool experience.

I drove from Orlando, FL to Greenwood, SC to see totality and it was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen, and I'm legitimately not exaggerating in the slightest.

State of Emergency set to take effect at 8 AM tomorrow morning here in North Carolina - all 100 counties - due to possible impact from Hurricane Irma. Even though my family lives in the NC foothills, that doesn't mean we're immune from the effects of a monster hurricane, as Hugo proved 28 years ago this month, and Irma is way, way worse than Hugo. Right now the forecasts have Irma turning northward along the Florida coast before making landfall possibly along SC coast early next week. Anyone else here who's in Irma's projected path or have already gone through the storm, stay safe.
