Empire. Forgive me, Master Lovechild of Kermit and Miss Piggy, but I think it's rather interesting to imagine the internal conflict that many Imperials struggled with, as the Empire became more ... openly evil.

Now this one is hard. You can't have Star Wars without the Empire right? But can you have it without Yoda? They're both essential.

I'm going with Yoda, though. Even without the Empire, you could still have Vader and the Emperor.
