I could say so very much, but unfortunately, I have a confession, and therefore have no right. I just watched RotJ the other night, and while a certain someone was on screen in a certain outfit, I couldn't help but think, "Wow, the guys must be drooling over this one. Of course...I suppose they have a reason."

So...I hang my head in shame and admit that even I see where the guys are coming from. However...! Whenever I think of Leia Organa Solo, that is not the first image that pops into my head. So for that reason alone, I still glance with contempt in the male direction. Wink

I really hope this doesn't come across as priggish, but really the reason I dislike the whole thing so much is that I do goggle when RotJ is on. It's just temptation I don't need, y'know? Confused

Does this mean you're voting for Leia too, Mara?

I'm not calling you a pig either. And leering is degrading. Looking and appreciating is not. Smile

You're welcome, Ben. *returns Ben's handshake* Wink

@Reep: Yes, my vote goes to Leia. For more reasons than I have time to type, so I won't. Smile

I blame George more than any of the guys watching. He's the one who decided that it would be appropriate to stick in some "eye candy*. *gag* It's just the instant "omg-Leia-slave-outfit" reaction some guys give whenever Leia is mentioned that gets me. It demeans the character, like that's all she's remembered for That said, I do kind of feel for y'all. I mean, it's there and it's blatant. You can't exactly ignore it. But I still feel morally obligated to stick my nose in the air in outrage on behalf of my gender. *stick nose into the air in outrage* Wink

Leia still communicates a positive image for women. She has all the qualities of a great leader and hero. The bikini's main downside is the body image message it sends to women. That's a very big issue (name a TV show that does not have the problem) but I do not feel that outfit that is the only message Leia conveys. Leia initially went in to save Han, and unfortunately ended up a prisoner. She stood up against one of the most dangerous criminals in the GFFA and took him down. When I put in my vote I was being honest about it being the image that comes to mind. I cast my vote for Leia because of the whole package not just the outfit. Women should be respected, no matter what they are wearing.

In all fairness that movie came out 3 decades ago. Things were different. Besides, while George shoved Leia in a metal bikini, he also portrayed her as anything but a helpless victim. Leia was one of the first real female action heroes.

This is an interesting topic and all, but it ain't the one this thread is meant for. Feel free to make a new thread if you so desire. Wink

Leia Organa wins 8-5.

Round I, Match IV:

Lightsaber:

or

Wait for it...

Imperial Navy Troopers:

The Troopers shall not know what hit them. Go easy on them. Wink

For me: The LIGHTSABER! Very Happy I can't even begin to express how cool these things are! They made knighthood possible in a technological society and they look so freaking cool! Navy Troopers look dorky in those helmets anyway...

Lightsaber. This choice requires no explanation. Wink

Le lightsabre est tres bien. For me, the lightsabre would win every time.

I can't see the image of the Imperial Navy Troopers. That would be all the guys flying the ship, right? The bridge crew? And most importantly, does that include the Death Star Gunners? (completely different outfits and a much more important role)
